Unit 3 Why do you like koalas Section A

Teaching objectives: 1. know some animals and some description words; 2. give reasons why I like animals.

3. understand why we should be friendly with the animals. Teaching key points: 1.Students should pronounce and understand the words about animals correctly. 2.Students can use description words to give reasons why they like animals correctly.

Task-based language teaching approach; Teaching aids: PPT Teaching procedures: Step 1 Leading in Have a free talk.

Ask students: Do you like pandas? Why do you like pandas? Show the title to the students.

Step 2 Show the objectives today Say: Today we will learn Unit 5 Why do you like pandas?

Up to now, we’ve talked about animals.

At the end of this class, you are able to : 1. know some animals and some description words; 2. give reasons why I like animals.

3. understand why we should be friendly with the animals.

Step 3 Presentation 1.

Brainstorm Say: Just now, we talked about tigers, elephants, koalas, and pandas. I have a question.

What other animals do you know?

Let students say the animals they’ve known.

Show some pictures to help students think of more animals. Let students read the words. 2. Present other pictures on the screen. Ask and answer in pairs.

A: What’s this / that?

B: It’s a / an ….

Teach new words that students can’t pronounce.

Show the plural forms of each word and read together. 3. Show the target language:

A: Do you like …s?

B: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

A: Why do you like …s?

B: Because they are ….

At the same time, teach the description words they don’t know.

4．Practice these dialogues in pairs.

Step4 Practice 1. 1a Oral practice Let students look at the picture in 1a, and answer the following questions. 2. 1b Listening practice First, Let students listen and check the animals they hear in 1a. Then let students listen again and fill in the blanks. Finally, let students read the conversation. 3. 1c Pair work A: Let’s see the pandas first.

B: Why do you want to see pandas? A: Because they’re cute.

Step 5 Consolidation Group work Make a survey in your group: What animals do you like? Why do you like them? Make a report like this: Hello, everyone! I’m xxx. I like …s. Because they’re …. But I don’t like …s. Because they’re….

In my group, xxx likes …s. Because he / she thinks they’re… and ….

… … xxx and xxx like …s. because they think they’re ….

Step 6 What can you do for animals? Show some pictures about protecting the animals to call on all of students to protect animals. Say: We all live on the earth. The earth is our common homeland. Ask:Why should we be friendly with the animals? Lead students to answer: Because we have the same homeland –the earth. Say: Love animals, love ourselves.

Step7 Summary Ask: What have we learnt today? Show the content on the blackboard to help students think about it.
