What does he look like? Teaching aims

1. Knowledge aims

To learn the key words and target language, listen to and talk about what people look like. 2.Ability aims

To train students’ skills of working in pairs. 3.Emotional aims To make students know everyone is special and don’t judge people by appearance.

Teaching Important & Difficult Points 1.To help students master the words and sentences about appearance. 2. To enable students to master the differences between "is" and "has" when they are used to describe one's appearance. Step1 Warm-up and Lead-in Watch a video Then lead into new target Language. Purpose of my designing: To attract the students’ attention and create a relaxing

studying environment. Step2 Presentation Tell the students we can use “What does he look like” to ask people’s looks and we can describe people from three aspects.(height,build,hair) 1 .Show tpictures to present the first type of describing people’s looks (height).

Show three pictures of differert heights. ②Show the words of height on the screen and let students read after teacher. ③Get students to use the words to answer "What does he look like?" ….. is tall. …. is of medium height. …..is short.

2. Show pictures to present the second type of describing people’s looks (build).

①Show three pictures of differert builds.. ②Show the words of build on the screen and let students read after teacher. ③Get students to use the words to answer "What does .....look like?" ….. is heavy. ….. is of medium build. ….. is thin.

3. Show pictures to present the third type of describing people’s looks (hair)

What does she look like? She has long/short/curly/straight hair. She has long/short/curly/straight hair. Purposes: Make students grasp the new words and sentences about the appearance.

Step 3 Ask and answer

Show some pictures of famous people and let ss make conversations using the target language.StudentA ask “What does he look like”? and StudentB answer the question according to the pictures . (I will change the style of their hair.) A: What does he look like? B:He is....... He has..... Purpose ;To improve ss’ spoken English and cooperating ability.

Step 4

Listening

1. Let students listen to 1b carefully, and fill in the blanks in the picture on page 49 and find Amy’s friend. Play the tape twice. The first time, students listen and fill in the blanks. The second time,find Amy’s friend. Purpose :Develop the students’ listening ability.

Step 5

Pairwork

Talk about the people in the TV show A Family with Kids A: What does….. look like?

B: He is ….. .And he has ……

A:I know ,he is|she is ….

Purpose:To improve students’ speaking ability and communicating ability. Step6

Step8 Role-play the convensation

Read the convensation and answer the following questions. 1.What Mike and Tony going to do this evening?

2.Who is going with them? Is he Tony’s friend?

3.What does David look like?

Then Reading CompepitionAsk Ss to read the convensation

as loudly as you can,as fluently as you can , as quickly as you can!

Step 9 Drawing and Guessing Game

1. Ask the students to draw a picture of their favorite teachers and write down what their favorite teachers look like . 2 .Then ask one students to describe

their favorite teachers and others guess .

Purposes 1. Make students be interested in the class. 2.Train students' communicative ability and improve the Ss’ ability of describing people. Step 10 Emotional education
