3. To use the model verbs correctly, such as must, can and can’t and so on. Let students use the sentences they have learned to talk about the school rules and make the rules.

Analysis of the students

Key points Teaching This lesson mainly talks about school rules. The students should know what they can do at school and what they can’t do at school. We must teach them how to use the imperative sentences. Pay attention to the sentence pattern “ Don’t……”.

As you know, the students have been in the middle school for more than half a year. And they have learned so many school rules. So they know what they can do and what they can’t do at school. They will be interested in this topic.

T: Today, we will learn Unit 4 Don’t eat in class．And in this lesson, we will mainly talk about some school rules. So, do you know the school rules?

Then I will explain what is the school rules in Chinese meaning. I will continue to explain the meaning of this phrases break the rules.

Step 1: Play a video for students

Show a video to students and let them pay attention to what school rules they are breaking in the video.

Question: 1.

What school rules are students breaking in the video? 2.

Can you talk/ sleep/ eat in class?

Teaching procedure

Step 2: Look at some pictures and say the school rules. In this part, I will give them some pictures and ask them to talk about the school rules. I will use these sentences to ask the questions: 1.

Who is she/he? 2.

What is she/ he doing? (She/ He is) listening to music in class. 3.

Can you listen to music in class? No, I can. I can’t listen to music in class, but I

can listen to music in the music room. 4.

Say the rule: Don’t listen to music in class.

I will give them 12 pictures in total to learn how to use the model verbs, such as can, can’t, must and

have to and the imperatives, just like Don’t listen to music in class.

What’s more, I will help the students to learn new words and phrases: rule, arrive for class, be on time, in the hallways, dining hall, listen to, fight.

Step 3: Practice

Task 1 Thinking and discussion (2 minutes)

Use the model verb to make sentences to talk about the school rules: e.g. We can

listen to music in the music room, but we can't listen to music in class.

When they finish, I will choose several students to present their sentences. And give them rewards.

Task 2 Discuss in groups. I will ask the students these questions: Do you break the rules? If you want to be a good student, what can you do at school? And what can’t you do at school?

Then, I will let them to discuss and make conversations with partners. (3 minutes) eg. A: Can you run in the hallways? B: No, we can’t. We can’t run in the hallways. C: Don’t run in the hallways.

After they finish practicing, I want several pairs to show their conversations.

Step 4: Listening I want to tell the students that their teacher told me someone in our class broke the rules. I wonder who broke the rules and what rules they had broke.

Now, it’s time to do activity 1b: Listen to the conversations and find what rules they are breaking.

In this part, I need to play the recording twice. For the first time, the students should write down the answers and. And for the second time, they should check the answers and send the answers to the public screen. At last, I will ask the students who broke the rules in our class and let them answer my question: can you break the rules?

Step 5: Playing a game Choose two students to have a PK on the PPT to find what school rules they can’t do at school. Then, I need to find the winner and check the answer.

Step 6: Exercises in class I will send two questions to students’ tablet PC

and give them two minutes to choose the correct answers. After that, I will check the answer and explain. Step 7: Play a video for the students which are mainly about some students’ good behaviors.

In this lesson, we have learned so many rules, do you know how to follow the rules? What can you do at school?

Then I will play the video to give them some samples and help them form a good habits of keeping rules. After watching, I will ask them: Can you learn from them? Do remember to follow the rules. Step 8: Summarize

If you want to be better and better, please keep the rules. Unit 12 Don’t eat in class.
