Step 1

Warmingup and revision

Show some pictures about rules. Let students guess what rules they are, and then lead in to the new lesson. (详见PPT) Step 2

Presentation

1．Look at the pictures in 1a. T: What day is it today? Ss: It's Tuesday.

T: The boy is going out with friends on school nights. (板书，教读) (Explain “school nights”)

Can you go out on school nights? Ss: No, we can't. T: Yes, in China, students can't go out on school nights without parents' permission. So please don't go out on school nights.

3．Read the rules in the chart in 1b. Then match the pictures[a—h] with the rules. 4．Check the answers with the class.

Listening

Work on 1b. 1．Tell students they'll listen to the recording about Dave's house rules. Listen and put an “×”

for things Dave can't do and a “√”

for things he has to do. 2．Play the recording for the students to listen and find out the answers. 3．Play the recording again for the students to check the answers.

Work on 1c. 1．Students read the phrases aloud together.

2．Explain the meaning of the phrases if necessary. 3．Play the recording three times for the students to listen and write the phrases in the chart in 1b.

Group work

1．Divide the students into groups. Each group has eight students.

2．T: Now let's talk about Dave's home rules. 3．Students work in groups. Every student can say one rule. Then you can write down what the rules are when other group members say.

4．Make a list of Dave's house rules.

Make some rules at home and talk about them with your parents.
