Lesson 12 By the Stream Teaching Aims:
1.
Students can read the following words: on the rug, by the stream, went on the bridge, dropped sticks/Teddy in the water, climbed up, fell in. 2.
Students can be aware of the story’s plot. 3.
Students can imitate and read the story with emotion fluently
4.
Students can retell the story or make something new to the story.
5.
Students should keep their safe when they play. Teaching procedure: 1. Lead-in Teacher shows a picture and ask the students guess what would happen:
Picture 1: T: Look at this picture. What can you see?
What are the family doing? (BQ: Are they having a picnic?)
Where are they?
Picture 2: T: Look at this picture. What can you see?
What are the children doing? Where are they? Did the children have fun? One day, the children went for a picnic with Dad and Mum by the stream. What happened in the story? Let’s have a look. 2. Teacher tells the story and try to ask some questions and help students understand the story. Picture 1: Mum and Dad sat on the rug.
(Teacher points the rug on the picture.)
Where did the children go? (Teacher points the kids on the picture.)
Picture 2: The children played by the stream.
What did Chip and Wilf get? (BQ: Did they get some sticks?)(Teacher points the sticks in Chip and Wilf’s hands)
What was in Kipper’s hand? (BQ: Was it a teddy bear?)
Biff went on the bridge.
“Look at me.” she said. Picture 3: Chip, Kipper, Wilf and Wilma went on the bridge. “Let’s play a game,” said Chip. They dropped sticks in the water.
Kipper couldn’t see. Why couldn’t Kipper see? (BQ: Was Kipper big or small?)
Picture 4: Kipper climbed up. (Teacher do the action “climb up” and ask the students do it)
Oops! He dropped Teddy in the water.(指向Teddy)
Picture 5: “Help! My teddy is in the water. Get Teddy,” said Kipper.
Biff got a long stick, but she couldn’t get Teddy. Picture 6: “Get Teddy,” said Kipper. Mum took the long stick. Biff and Wilma held Mum.
But Mum couldn’t get Teddy. Picture 7: “I want Teddy,” said Kipper.
Dad took the stick. The children held Dad. Could Dad get teddy? No. Dad couldn’t get Teddy. Picture 8: Oh no! Chip fell over.Dad fell in. Splash! Picture 9: Dad was all wet. But look! He got Teddy.(Teacher points Teddy in Dad’s hand.)
What was that?(Teacher points the frog on Dad’s head.)
“I am a frogman,” said Dad.
Poor old Dad! 3.
Listening and Imitating 1)
Students open, point and listen to the story. Mum and Dad sat on the rug. The children played by the stream.
Biff went on the bridge.
They dropped sticks in the water.
Kipper couldn’t see.
Kipper climbed up .
He dropped Teddy in the water. “Get Teddy,”said Kipper. Biff couldn’t get Teddy.
Mum couldn’t get Teddy.
“Get Teddy,”said Kipper. Dad couldn’t get Teddy.
‘I want Teddy.” said Kipper.
Splash! Dad fell in. “I am a frogman.” said Dad.
2) Students listen, point and try to imitate the story sentence by sentence, especially the phrases like “on the rug”,“by the stream”,“went on the bridge”,“dropped sticks”,“Teddy in the water”,“climbed up”,“fell in”and try to imitate the correct emotion of “Get Teddy!” and “I am a frogman.”
3) Read the story dramatically in groups. 4) read the story together. 4. Story comprehension:
1) Teacher sticks the pictures 1-4 and the sentences on board. Mum and Dad sat ______________. The children played _______________. Biff went on the ________. They dropped sticks _______________. Kipper couldn’t see. Kipper climbed ______. He ________ Teddy in the water. 2) Students try to fill in the blanks with cards like on the rug, by the stream, bridge, in the water, dropped.
6. Role-play 1) Teacher sticks the pictures 5-9. Then find 8 students to play the the narrator、Kipper, Wilma、Biff、Kipper、Chip、Wilf、Dad like this: Kipper: Get Teddy. Wilma: I’ll help.
Biff: Oh no! I can’t get teddy.
Kipper: Get Teddy. Wilma: We’ll help.
Chip: Come on, Mum! Wilf: Be careful! Mum: Oh no! I can’t get teddy.
Kipper: I want Teddy. Dad: Oh no! I can’t get teddy.
Dad: I am a frogman. 2)
Group work and show. 7.
T: When Kipper dropped his teddy in the stream, what would others do?
Ss: Help Kipper.
T: Yes, family and friends will help you, when you are in troubles.
When Dad fell in the water, was Dad happy? Was everyone happy?
Ss: Yes.
T: Enjoy the fun in your life. 8.
Homework 1) Imitate the recording and read the story fluently. 2) Tell the story to your parents. 3) Act out the story.
