Unit 9 What does he look like? Section B(2a-2c) 一、教学目标：

1. 语言知识：

Students can master the new words:artist, crime, criminal, put, each, way, describe, differently, another, end, real, jeans. Functional sentences:

The criminal is of medium height and young. He has long straight brown hair and big eyes. He is tall and thin, and he has curly blond hair 2.过程与方法：

Read the article,underline some key words and important sentences;then finish some reading tasks,students can have a good understanding of the content.Also,they can master some reading skills such as scanning and skimming;they can describe people’s appearance by using the target language. 3. 情感态度价值观：

To know that police artists make contributions to society and to know that describing people’s appearance properly is related to our daily lives. 二、教学重点: Acknowledge the new word and functional sentences in this part.

教学难点: To find the logical relationship according to reading the passage ;To discuss if the title “an interesting job”is a good title.

三、教学过程: Ⅰ.Before reading: Lead-in. Play a video of the movie “美人鱼”. T:Let’s see an interesting video carefully.

T:Look,bazhuayu uses one of his tentacles to wrap Deng chao,(用手势帮助学生理解)so here is a crime.Bazhuayu is the

criminal.Deng chao comes to the police and reports this crime.He describes what bazhuayu looks like.The police artist draws a picture of the criminal-bazhuayu.(板书crime,criminal,describe,police artist.) T:Read the words. 通过播放电影美人鱼的片段，里面有一位police artist边听邓超的描述边为他画出罪犯八爪鱼的画像。这个电影片段正好展示了刑侦画像师这份工作，便于学生理解文章内容。这样幽默的片段不但激发同学们学习此课的兴趣，也导入了重点词汇：crime,criminal,describe,police artist.

Ⅱ.While reading:

1.Scanning.

T:look at the title “an interesting job”,What is an interesting job in the passage? S:Police artist. T:Good.Who is a police artist? S:Joe Brown.

T:Excellent.And his job is to…

S:Draw a picture of a criminal.

Police artist Joe Brown Draw a picture of the criminal 通过快速扫读，弄清文章的几个主要元素who,what job ,what to do，即文章主人公是谁，他的职业是什么，这份工作要做些什么。

2.Skimming. T:How many paragraphs in this passage? S:Two paragraphs. T:Good.Now please read Para.1 and fill in the blanks.

通过考察动词的填写，让学生理清刑侦画像师（police artist）这份工作的整个流程,理解第一段的内容：一般来说，人们发现罪案，报告罪案；向刑侦画像师描述罪犯的长相，穿着；画像师画一幅准确的画像；警察把画像发布在报纸，电视上寻找罪犯。

T:Do you think Joe Brown’s job is interesting? S:Yes./Maybe. T:But sometimes it’s difficult.Do you think so?Why is it difficult?Read Para.2 and find the reasons. S:Many people don’t always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently.（老师通过让同学们观看一张图有多张脸的图片，让大家讨论各自看到什么，举例说明同一张图片，不同的人会从不同的角度看到不同的事物。从而让学生理解这句话，也理解这份工作的困难之处。）

People don’t always remember well.

T:Read the rest part of Para.2 and find out who the real criminal is. S:Picture A is the real criminal. T:How do you know it? S:From the passage “the real

criminal is a short and heavy old man,and he has short black hair!”

T:Good.But people don’t always see things the same way.They see things differently.So they describe the same person differently. One woman says, “…”

S:He is of medium height and young.He has long straight brown hair and big eyes.(展示picture b,学生按图片描述。) T:Another woman says, “…”

S:He is tall and thin,he has curly blond hair.He is about thirty years old.(展示picture c,学生按图片描述。)

通过循序渐进的两个问题，让学生带着问题去阅读，学生先是理解了这份工作的难处；再是通过找罪犯，引出学生对于3副图片的外貌描述，知道不同的人可能会不同地描述同一个罪犯。既复习了如何准确的描述外貌，又让学生理解不同的人有不同的观点。

3．Careful reading:Task-1: T:Read para.2 again and fill in the blanks.

通过单词填空，学生运用新单词并复述内容。

Task-2: T:There are some pronouns in bold

in the passage.What do they refer to?You can write the answers in 2C on page 53.Pay attention to the sentence before the pronouns. (For example,he is a police artist.Who is he?From the sentence before it,we know that Joe Brown

is a police artist.so “he” refers to “Joe Brown”.) T:Let’s check your answers.

完成2c，找到文中的逻辑关系（指代关系）的词汇或短语。并进行阅读策略指导。

Ⅲ.After reading: 1.Discussion: T:After reading the article,we know this job is sometimes difficult.But why the writer give the title“an interesting job”to it?Is it a good title?

S:Yes. This job helps to find criminals.the job is not only interesting but also meaningful. T:I agree with you. It makes contributions to the society.And describing people’s appearances properly is related to our daily lives. 解读标题，学生讨论思考这份工作的意义并进行德育渗透。

2.Group work.（five students a group）

T:Do you want to be a police artist? Someone stole (偷)a bike in the neighboorhood.Three Witnesses(目击者) saw it. They are talking about it to the police.Now five students in a group, one is a policeman(P),three witnesses(W1,W2,W3)

take turns(轮流) to describe the criminal’s look to the police.the last one is a police artist who draws a picture of the criminal.

(注意：只有三位目击者能看照片！大家有五分钟的时间询问和画画，完成后到讲台前来表演对话，并展示画像。我们看哪组描述得最准确，画得最像。)

小组通过合作活动，使学生由语言输入转化为语言输出，（口语能力训练和表达能力训练）最终达成职业体验警察画像师。

Ⅳ.Homework: Write a short passage to describe the criminal. 学以致用，将本课学习的重点内容全部融入到任务中，

使学生完成任务的同时全面复习巩固本课重点知识。
