Learner description:
The target learners are students from Class Two, Grade Six in SWWY. There are 23 students in the class and their English proficiency varies. Most of the students are active and would like to share their ideas in class.
Teaching objectives: By the end of the class, students are expected to be able to understand the article Phone off, fun on and talk about their understanding and views on the Phone off, fun on activity.
Difficult points: Students should understand new words and use them in the interview. Students should talk about the reasons why they will (not) put phones in the locker.
Material description: The article is supplemental material for Grade Six students. It can help improve students’ reading skills and speaking ability.

Text:
Phone off, fun on A new survey by McDonald’s Singapore (新加坡) shows 72 percent of children and 69 percent of parents use their phones during meals. In order to get customers to put their phones away and start talking to each other again, McDonald’s introduced the mobile phone locker in its restaurants in the city-state (城邦国家). The locker can hold 100 phones, but it seems people don’t really want to leave their phones. To no one’s surprise, people prefer Instagram (一款社交软件) to real face time. This is not the first time McDonald’s has tried to make people put down their phones during meals. In 2015, they tried to do that in India; however, it didn’t work. Let’s see if people in Singapore will begin to like the mobile phone locker! Read it aloud
