T:Good morning, everyone! Today we will learn Unit 5. What’s the topic of this unit?

S:Why do you like pandas? T: That’s right. We will talk about some animals in this unit. First, I want to ask you a question. Did you watch the famous movie “zootopia”? What do you think of it? S: Interesting; funny. T: Well, I think it’s interesting. There are many animals in the movie. So can you call their names? (show pictures in the movie; teach words in singular and plural forms ) T: Now let’s watch the movie carefully….What animals can you see in the video?

S: Rabbit, fox and sloth. T: Do you like them? S: Yes. T: Why do you like them? Maybe because they are smart. Maybe they are cute. Now we are going to visit other animals. Please follow me. Welcome to our zootopia!

Step2—New words learning (1)Purpose: help students learn new words well (2)Contents: show a small part of those animals for students to guess what the animal is; give the phonetic symbol of each word and then teach to read; give the plural forms of those animals’ names (3)Instructions:

T: The animals in the PPT are all my friends. Let’s meet them one by one…. So the first picture, what’s this?

S: Panda. T: Yes, it’s a panda. Read after me, panda, panda. Pay attention to its pronunciation. And we can see there are four pandas. Pandas, pandas. S: Pandas, pandas. (the rest new words teach in the same way) Step3—Let’s guess (1)Purpose: help students be more familiar with those new words (2)Contents: give some parts of the animals and guess what the anima is (3)Instructions:

T: Can you remember all of these animals’

names? Now let’s check. Look at this picture. What’s the animal, can you guess? S: It’s a panda. T: Well done. It’s a panda. So how do you like it? S: It’s shy. T: Yes, the panda in the picture is a little shy. Read after me, shy, shy. S: Shy, shy. (the rest new adjectives are leaded in the same way) Step4—Review new words and do 1a (1)Purpose: help students be more familiar with those new words (2)Contents: give the picture in 1a, and then ask “What animals can you find in this picture?”; then do 1a (3)Instructions:

T: Now let’s check. Look at this map in the zoo. What animals can you find in this picture? S: Tiger, lion, giraffe, elephant, koala…

T: Well done. You tell all of the animals. Now let’s do 1a. Please match the words with the animals in this picture…Are you done? S: Yeah. T: Let’s check the answer, a-f-c-e-d-b. Are you all right? …Well done! Step5—1b listen and check (1)Purpose: do the listening task (2)Contents: students listen to the tape and pick out the animals they hear (3)Instructions:

T: Now let’s go to 1b. Listen and check the animals you hear in 1a. Let’s listen to it…What’s your answer? S: Koala, panda and giraffe. T: You’ve got the right answer. Step6—pair work (1)Purpose: practice the sentence patterns (2)Contents: let students work in pairs; follow 1c and create their own conversations (3)Instructions:

T: Hey, guys. Now we have learned so many animals. What animals do you like? Why do you like them? Now work in pairs and talk about your preferences by following 1c…

Time’s up. Which pair want to show your conversations? Yes, please. S: Let’s see the pandas. Why do you want to see them? Because they are very cute. T: Thank you so much. Sit down, please. How about another pair? S: I like koalas. Why do you like them? Because they’re interesting. T: Guys, did you remember the first student’s favorite animals? Yes, she likes pandas. For me, I like pandas, too. Do you know where are pandas from? S: China. T: Yes, they are from China. Now let’s go to 2a to find out some other animals’

Step7—group work (1)Purpose: practice the sentence patterns (2)Contents: the whole class is divided into 9 groups. Students work in groups and tell their group members their favorite animals and the reason one by one. The one who is the fastest and the clearest is the winner. (3)Instructions:

T: Now let’s do a game. You are divided into 9 groups. The first student of each group tells the second one what animal he or she likes and the reason. Then the second one tells the next one. At last, the last one need to do the report like “ in our group, XXX likes… because…” Here are some rules for you… Are you ready? S: Yes. T: Go! S:In our group, XXX likes koalas, because they’re interesting…. T: Okay, Group 3 wins the game. Step8—2a listen and write (1)Purpose: finish the listening task in 2a (2)Contents: students listen to the tape and finish the task in 2a (3)Instructions:

T: In 2a, you need to listen and write the animals you hear. Then you should draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from. Are you clear?... Let’s move on.
