To learn the target language and talk about the school rules. Teaching difficult points: 1. To talk about the school rules by using the imperative sentences. 2. To train students’ listening and speaking skills. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Warming up and lead-in 1.T show pictures of some signs which are often seen in life, and ask students: What do these signs mean? Ss: “Turn right”, “Don’t turn right” “Don’t smoke”, “Don’t take photos”
T let the students read the sentences and realize they are “rules”
2. T point to a picture of the “School rules” and ask the students: “What’s this?”
S: It’s a school rule. (They are school rules).
Step 2 Presentation Show a set of pictures to the students and use “ask and answer” method to revise what students have learned and present target language. For example: T: Look at the picture. They are having an English class, but Liu Mei... Ss: She is late.
T: She is late for class. We can also say she arrives late for class. Can we arrive late for class? Ss: No, we can’t.
T: So if you are late for school. You are breaking the rule. So don’t arrive late for class/don’t be late for class. You must be on time. (Write them on the blackboard and teach the students to read.) T show a picture and ask:
T: What’s the boy doing?
Ss: He’s running.
T: Where is he running?
Ss: He’s running in the hallways. T: Can we run in the hallways?
Ss: No, we can’t.
T: Why can’t we run in the hallways?
S: Because it’s dangerous.
T: So please don’t run in the hallways.
= We can’t run in the hallways.
(Write on the blackboard and teach students to read) Use the same method to present the target language: “Don’t run in the hallways. Don’t eat in the classroom. You must eat in the dining hall. Don’t listen to music in class. Don’t fight.”
T: These are all school rules. Please read after me. Step 3 Practice 1.Show students two video clips from the film Fight Back To School and ask them what school rules they are breaking. Ss:

Example: arrive late for class, must be on time, run in the hallways, eat in the dining hall, and listen to music. Step 4 Listening 1. 1b. Before listening, the students should know the listening requirements. T: Well, three students are breaking the rules. They are Peter, Amy and Mike. Listen and write down the key words for what Peter, Amy and Mike have done?
Peter-- _________ Amy--____________ Mike-- ______________ (Play the recording and let the students write down the key words, example: Peter—run; Amy—eat; Mike—listen to.) 2. Finish 1b. What rules are these students breaking? Write the numbers after the names. (Play the tape again) Peter ________ Amy _________ Mike ________ (Keys: Peter:2 Amy: 3 Nick: 4) Step 5 Pairwork 1.1c.This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
Let students make new conversations.
T: Now let’s talk about the rules of our school. Student A is a new student in your school. Student B tells him or her about the rules in your school. Work in groups or in pairs, for example: A: What are the rules? B: Well, we can’t arrive late for class. We must be on time.

(As the pairs talk, the teacher moves around the room monitoring their work, offering language or pronunciation support as needed.) Invite 4 to 6 pairs to role-play their conversations. Step 6 Summary T: Can we read books in the library?
