Teaching methods:

1, New words: go along, turn left, turn right, crossing... 2,The sentence pattern: — Excuse me, is there a ... near / around here? — Yes, there is. Go along... and turn left at... — Could you tell me the way to...? —Thank you very much.

3, The preposition of locality: in front of, across from, on the left,right Task-based language teaching method, Audio-Lingual Method

Step1. Warming-up and revision 1. Sing a song California!Greet the students as usual. 2. Revise some words by playing a guessing game.

Step2. Presentation 1.

Play a video which is concerning traffic rules and ask them some questions. T: From this video, what should we do when we cross the street? S: We should look at the traffic lights when we cross the street. T: Do you know what these signs mean?(show pictures of traffic lights)

S: Red means stop.

Green means yield.

Green is the best way to go. T: Excellent. Where can you see the traffic lights?(draw a picture on the blackboard and introduce the word ‘crossing’ ) S: We can see them at the crossing. 2.

Show a map introducing ‘go along’, ‘turn left’, ‘turn right’...

Read these words loudly.

Step3. Practice

Teacher put an apple on a student’s desk. Ask them how I can

get the apple.

Show 3 maps and ask students to give the directions. Teaching procedures

Step4. Listening 1.

Before listening

Show the picture on Page 46 on the screen. Ask students some questions: What’s in the picture in 1b?

Where is the ...? 2.

While listening 1）Listen and circle the places you hear in 1b. Then invite a student to check the answer. T:

We can’t find the hotel and restaurant in picture of 1b. Where are they? What does A / B mean? Let’s do another exercise.

2）Listen and write the correct place for each letter in the picture. 3.

Post listening From the exercises, students have known where each place is. T: we know A is restaurant, B is hotel.

So, how can I get to restaurant/hotel? Students give the directions by using the map. T: now, let’s listen again and fill in the blanks. Invite two students to read the conversation and check the answer.

Step5 .Group work

1, Show a map of school neighborhood. They are very interested because they are familiar with their neighborhoods. 2,Students do a group work to make new conversations and act out.

Step6.Summary Students summarize what they learned in this class.Teachers give supplement and emphasize the importance of helping others.

Step7. Homework 1.

Introduce your school to your friends using the sentence “There be”.

Draw a map of your neighborhood and introduce it to others.
