Chapter4: In the holiday Part C&D 1. Daily Presentation:

Process:

One student shared her favorite holiday with the help of power point. Aim:

This step is to lead in the theme of this class and encourage students to express in front of the whole class.

2. Review

Process &Aim: When talking about holidays in the past, we need to use the past tense.

Students review the past tense of regular and irregular verbs together.

3. Enjoy a video of children’s happy moments

Process &Aim: All of us had happy moments in the past. Students enjoyed their happy moments from the video that the teacher made for them to recall their own holiday.

4. Share holidays Process: How was your holiday? What did you do?

After enjoying the video, students are going to share their holidays. Aim:

Students can express themselves with the adjectives given by the teacher.

5. Get into Charlie and Cherry’s holiday and show the structure of the letter to students Process: While sharing the holiday, a postman suddenly knocked at the door and sent the teacher a letter which was about “In the holiday”.

T: What was the letter about?(Show the envelop) S: In the holiday. T: We can also say “on holiday”.

The teacher took out the letter and showed it to students. (Important information was shown in bigger and bold letters.) Students scanned and answered some questions.

When was the letter written?

Who was the letter for? Who wrote the letter? Aim: After this, students can learn about the main format of the letter.

6. Predict the letter Process: What else do you want to know from the letter?

Students can predict the letter with the wh- words in ppt.

Aim: This step is to arouse students’ interests and develop their ability of thinking.

7. Listen and Answer

Process: Listen to the letter and answer some questions.

Where did they go? Who did they meet? What did they think of the place? Aim:

This step can help students get some basic information about this letter.

8. Read, underline the verbs and find Process: Students read the letter silently and underlined the verbs in the letter to get more details about what the children did in the village.

Aim:

This step is to help students get more detailed information of the letter. First teacher asked, then students asked and answered.

Students are the main participants of the class.

9. Read after the tape Process and Aim: Students read after the tape and imitated its intonation and pronunciation.

10. Finish the chant

Process: Students finish the chant of their own words and then sang the chant together.

Aim: This step is to help students consolidate, stimulate their thinking and arouse their interests in different ways of practicing.

11. Enjoy the watermelon and predict their second day of holiday Process: T: Happy, Yummy, I like my holidays. Yes, here Vivian also got the watermelons from the Green Village! Who wants to taste it?

Students tasted the watermelon and expressed their feelings.

T: Charlie and Cherry also love the watermelons so they chose to live in Green Village for one more day. Can you guess what they did?

Aim: This step is to put students in the real scene , to arouse their desire to participate in the class , to express and to predict the next story.

They can predict with the help of the given verbs.

12. Listen and tick what they did Process: Students listened and ticked what the children did.

S: They fed the chickens. Tick picture 4!

In this step, the key words and phrases can be taught to students. With the help of pictures and audio, it was easier for students to understand. The teacher corrected their pronunciation of the new words.

Aim: This can help them get the main idea of the diary.

13. Put the phrases in right order according to the time and read

Process: Students were asked to put all the phrases on the blackboard in right order and put them in the right column.

(In the morning, At lunchtime, In the afternoon) Aim: This step is to help students realize the diary can be written in the order of time to make it more organized and clear.

14. Read with the tape and find what was missing in the diary on the blackboard

Process: T: Actually, it is a diary from Charlie, but something was missing here. Please read with the tape and find out.

Students read with the tape and find out the date and weather were missing on the blackboard.

Aim:

This step is to help students find out the format of writing a diary. The date and weather cannot be left out.

15. Finish the chant

Process: T: Charlie and Cherry really had great fun in the holiday. Charlie wrote a diary for their holiday. Cherry wrote a chant for it. Let’s help her finish the chant.

Students finished and sang the chant together.

Aim: This step is to help students consolidate and conclude the children’s holiday.

16. Guess what Charlie took home and brain storm

Process: T: They really had great fun. After going to home, what did Charlie take home for his mum.

Students guessed what was in Charlie’s hand and then listened to the answers.

T: Do you think Charlie can grow watermelons in his flat? Why? Aim:

This step can help stimulate students’ critical thinking and encourage them to express. It can also help students to link the story with their real life.

17. Compare the differences between diary and letter Process: T: So dear all, during the holiday, the children wrote a letter and a diary. Can you help find the differences between them. Students were asked to talk about all the differences between the letter and the diary.

Aim:

This step is to help students develop their ability to observe and their divergent thinking. It can also help student acquire the correct format of both letters and diaries.

18. Enjoy a video of our one-day holiday of spring-outing

Process: T: So this is the end of Charlie and Cherry’s holiday. It’s time to enjoy our one- day holiday that we spent together. T showed students a video about the exciting and unforgettable moments of their one- day holiday for spring outing.

Aim:

This step is to stimulate students’ interests and encourage them to put we have learnt today into use during the happy process of recalling our happy day.

19. Finish our own diary and pay attention to the diary structure.

Process: After the video, students were asked some questions When was our last holiday? Where did we go? How did you feel? Why?

Students gave answers from their bottom of their hearts because they are their own experiences. After that, students were asked to work in the group to finish their diary.

Before starting their group work, the teacher helped them review.

T: First, don’t forget the date and weather. Then, don’t forget to use the past tense. After that, remember the order of time can help our diary more clearly. At last, tell us your feelings of that holiday.

Aim:

This step is to conclude and lead students to have their output after learning the text. Besides, students were expected to develop the writing skills, communicative skills and cooperative spirits.

After group work, students shared their diary. It can help them cultivate the ability to make a speech in front of others and to display their works.

20. Enjoy holiday

Process: T: Boys and girls, thanks for your excellent and amazing sharing.

Life is full of different colors, sometimes as bright as a sun, sometimes as dark as night, but just enjoy it. Holidays could be exciting, amazing, or boring, even tiring! But holiday is holiday. Every experience is unique and precious. Let’s just enjoy our holidays and life! Aim: To elevate students’ emotion and help them develop their positive sense of value for life.
