What does he look like?

The First Period (Section A, 1a–1c)

Teaching aims 1.

Knowledge Aims

A. Learn these words and expressions, and be able to say, read and write them: 

Face,mouth,eye,nose,hair,leg,head,tooth(teeth) 

Curly,straight,tall,of medium height,thin,heavy,blonde,round B. Be able to describe somebody’s appearance.













A:What does your friend look like? B:She is tall./She’s of medium height./She wears glasses. A:Is he tall or short? B:He’s tall. A:Do they have straight or curly hair? B:They have curly hair. 2.

Communicative function: To be able to recognize the people according to the description of their looks.

Set up the right view on how to describe a person’s appearance.

Cultivate their team spirit in the pair work. 3)

Make students know that don't judge someone just by appearance.Try to find others' shining points. Teaching important and difficult points: 1.

Learn the pronunciation of the important words.

Communicate with others with the new sentence patterns. 3.

Learn to talk about describe people’s looks.

Teaching steps: 1.Warm-up, revision and presentation. (课堂热身和,复习并呈现新知识)

(1)Daily greeting to the students（日常问候）

(2)Revision about describing a person’s hair,build and height. And then get the Ss to practice together “What does he/she look like? “He has long straight long hair..”

(3)Present the question: Do you really know your body parts?

Teach the Ss the new word: face,nose,eye,mouth.

外貌，再延伸到本课时新的面部描述，这样以旧带新，增加知识的前后联系。教学生词时，注意引导学生根据音标拼读单词，关注拼读与拼写的联系。

由于本单元的话题是：进一步询问并描述他人的外貌。所以通过复习前面section A所学过的句型，练习描述

Presentation.(新单词和句型的呈现）

1）引出本班同学的照片从而教读新单词T:Now here comes our new friends.Let’s describe their face specifically .What does he look like? He has a round face.依次类推呈现新单词和短语。（words: a big nose,a small mouth,a round face, small eyes,a long face,wear glasses）

2)Describe the picture to consolidate the new words. 3) Exercise: Match the words with the pictures. 4)Game time: Who is your best friend? 5)Summarize the structures about how to describe people’s appearance。

Work on 1c. Listen and write Johnny Dean’s and Tina Brown’s jobs in the chart. (2)

Check the answers.

Listen again and fill in the blanks.(check answers by asking two students to read this conversation) (4)

Listen and read after the sentences one by one(pay attention to imitating the tones)

5. Group work. (小组活动)

One group choose one student to fill in the chart and make a report.And give them some examples and evaluation criteria.（此环节由学生自行进行评价，但是要进行口头综合练习，对学生的语言输出进行评价。

帮助学生建立评价标准。同样要展示评价标准并选出本堂课的最终获胜小组，当堂给予奖励。）

Group B:Copy the words on page 52 and 53，one word four times.

B组：抄写52,53页的单词,一个四遍。
