To enable the Ss to grasp the reading skills. B.

To enable the Ss to get some important information by themselves. 

Teaching important and difficult points: 1. Have students master the new words and language points. 2. Know about food culture and birthday culture around the world. 3. Improve students’ reading skills and interest of learning English.



Teaching process: Step 1: warm - up

Let students talk about what they do or eat on their birthday freely. T: when is your birthday? what do you eat on your birthday? What do you often do on your birthday? Students: Cake, noodles, egg, have a birthday party…

Then show Ss some birthday activities by summary. Step2: Before – reading

Let Ss listen to the article for the first time and predict 2 questions: Q1:What’s the passage about? Q2:What’s the main idea of the passage? Ask Ss answer them and check the answers together. Step3: Fast – reading Let Ss read the article quickly by themselves and find out the main ideas of each paragraph. Paragraph 1--Different people in different countries like to eat different food on their birthday. Paragraph 2--Birthday traditions in many countries. Paragraph 3--It talks about what people often eat on their birthday in China. Paragraph 4--The ideas of the birthday food are to bring good luck to the birthday person.

Step 4: Careful – reading Para1 Let one student read paragraph 1 loudly and let another student translate it into Chinese. It is short and easy. Step 5: Careful – reading Para2 Let Ss read Para2 carefully and find the information to do the exercise. Then check the answers together. Step 6: Careful – reading Para3 Let Ss read para3 carefully and finish the mind map. Step 7: Careful – reading Para4 Let Ss read para4 and explain the key points to understand the meaning better. Step 8: Post reading Fill in the chart in part 2b. And check the answers together. Country UK China
