What does he look like? (1a-2c)

教学目标

1. Students are able to read and understand the new words and expressions: blonde, nose, round, face, wear, glasses, artist, crime, criminal, way, differently, another, describe, real 2. Students are able to describe a person’s appearance. 3. Students show more interest in learning English with the games, the video and competitions. 4. Students’ English competence will be improved with a combined practice of listening, speaking, reading and writing. 5. Students are able to use some reading strategies like scanning and careful reading to get information. 6. Students are able to get the awareness that people see the same thing differently.

学情分析

Students have captured some basic vocabularies and sentence patterns about how to describe a person’s appearance in Section A. They are going to strengthen the same topic in Section B and learn more new words and expressions.

教学内容分析

From 1a to 1e, the main aim is to review what students have learned in Section A. Though the listening is difficult, the information card is simplified according to students’ English level. So the difficulty lever is lowered. The reading in 2a is a challenge for students. The difficulties include some new words (like criminal, crime and differently), and the comprehension of the long passage.

教学环节与活动

1. Warming-up:

Game: touch your nose As the teacher gives orders like “touch your nose”, students try to do the action as soon as possible.

Aim to arouse students’ interest.

2. Review: What does he/ she look like? (1a) Show four pictures and lead students to describe them using what they learned in section A. Review the sentence pattern and vocabulary. Learn four new words and phrases: blonde, big nose, round face and wear glasses. 3. Listening: (1b and 1c) Listen twice and complete the information card. Mainly there are two questions: What do Johnny Dean and Tina Brown do? What do they look like?

4. Speaking: (1e) What does the super star look like? Show four photos of super stars who are very popular to students, and invite students to describe them. It is a group competition. One point will be given as long as the student can stand up and say one sentence about the photos. 5. Game: We are all artists. Students in one group draw a picture together according to the same description.

Share their original drawings in class. Lead the students to realize that people see the same person differently.

6. Reading (2a) (1)Watch a video and get to know the meanings of the new words Teach the pronunciations of the new words; Practice reading the new words with flashcards (2) Scan the passage and answer the following questions What is Joe Brown’s job?

Why is his job difficult? What does the real criminal look like? (3) Read the passage carefully and find out the detailed information. What do the words in bold refer to? (2b) (4) Read the passage again and find out the phrases. Practice the phrases with the help of a competition named “Challenge your memory”. Students have to focus on the translations and try to recall them as soon as possible when the phrases are covered in one second.

教学评价:

All the students are involved in the class. Most of them show great interest in the class, especially when they draw pictures together and when they play the game “challenge

your memory”. I think the success is rooted to some funny and creative designs of activities. However, there are also some shortcomings. Technically, some links are not fluent, for example the video and the timer. This mistake wasted some time.
