Greetings and warm up.

Sing a song together: We wish you a Merry Christmas. 2.

New words.

Input: 3-4 pictures into a nation: Teacher provides 3-4 pictures (map; flag; place of interest; celebrity; etc.) of a nation, Ss guess which country it is.

Teacher shows country name and its phonetic symbol, students try to read.

Teach how to pronounce and check students’ pronunciation by having some students stand up and say the word.

Students say together and then move on to learn a new word by the same way.

After learning the second word, do not forget to review the first one. (keep reviewing to help them memorize new words better.)

Drill: after learning all the country names, review one by one: Teacher points students say and memorize.

Output: divide students into different teams. Each time a member of each team stands up to race to blurt out a country name, the winner gets a points. The team which gets the most points win. 3.

New sentences 1.

New word: from. PPT show the word ‘from’ and its phonetic symbol. Students try to read; teacher teaches how to pronounce and check their pronunciation. 2.

PPT shows a picture of myself and ask students who she is. Then show text:

I’m (a teacher). I’m from China. Having students guess the meaning of ‘from’. 3.

Stress ‘I’m from China.’ and ask students: Are you from (the US)? Then ask and input ‘Where are you from?’ Lead students to answer with ‘I’m from China.’

and drill with more students. 4.

Show pictures (Confucius, the Terra Cotta Warriors, etc.) about China. Students look at the pictures and express their feelings about China. 5.

Then Teacher asks students ‘Where are you from?’ and encourage student to answer with their affection to China.

Drill ‘Where are you from?’ by leading students to read. Then ask one student

the question, then have the student to propose the question to any other students. Repeat to have students ask and answer for several rounds.

Teaching reflection

Students are active to express what they know about different countries. Knowing something that other students don’t know makes them feel proud. Most students are quite focused so that they can catch chances to show.
