Unit7 It’s raining! Teaching Aims and Demands

Focal Points and Difficult Points 1 Remember the new words and the structures by heart. 2 Master the present continuous tense. 3 Improve the listening and oral abilities by talking about the weather.

Teaching aid: A tape recorder, chalk, pictures. Teaching methods

In this topic, I will use five-step Teaching Method and Task-based Language Teaching. I think if I want to improve the students’ oral English, I should give them enough chances to practice, and I will use pair work, group work to let the students take an active part in all kinds of activities. That is “Learning by doing, learning by using”. Let the students be the masters of the class teaching, thus, student-centered teaching pattern is well shown. And study becomes more relaxing in this kind of

environment. 4 Teaching procedures Step1Greet the students and review

First, ask the students to listen to a music called “How is the weather?”

Then,

greet the students as usual.

Next, review the pattern “What +be+somebody +doing?”

Step2 Leading-in

1. I will give the students a picture about weather report. In the picture, Yangdan is reporting the weather. I will ask two questions: Who is she? What is she doing? The students will tell me the answers, because they are familiar with Yangdan and the picture. But maybe they cannot say the answers in English very well. So I still say the answers in English again.

2.Just now, we talked about the weather report. But how many kinds of weather do you know? And how many kinds of weather can you see in the following pictures? Then, I’ll present some pictures about weather. They are: rainy, raining, snowy, snowing, cloudy, windy and sunny. Step3 Consolidation

1. After they finish learning the target words, I will ask them to see the signals about weather to see if they can say them out

correctly. I ask: What do you mean? Then I will present the correct answers one by one.

Learn the key patterns :How's the weather? = What’s the weather like?

It’s rainy/snowy/rainy…

3. Pair-work the pattern according the other pictures. I will ask the students to make a conversation in pairs according to the model. Then ask several pairs to present in front of us. Step4 Practice 1.Do 1a in the text. Match the kinds of weather with the picture. In this part, I will ask the students to do themselves. Then we will check the answers together. 2.Listening Section Ask the students to listen to the dialogues in 1b. Ask them to listen carefully and find out the cities related to the pictures. Finally, I will choose several students to say out their answers. And we can check them together. 3.Group-work. For example:

How's the weather in Beijing?

It’s sunny. In this part, I will put the students into five parts. Each part own one picture, and I will give them one minute to make the

dialogues, then ask them to present them to the whole class. In the end, we will look at the dialogues by using the flashes together. 4. Write a passage about today and tomorrow’ s weather. Their passage can begin with: Beijing is sunny, but it will be windy tomorrow. Chengdu is...... Step 5 Summary

In this lesson, we have learned some words and sentences about the weather .Students can use these to ask and answer about local weather information.
