Language goals: Describe people’s looks. ⅠTeaching Objectives:

Enable students to use the sentence patterns: what does she/he look like? She is… she has…hair. 3.

Moral objects Don’t judge people by their appearance. ⅡFocus and difficulty: 1. Focus: be able to describe a person by using sentence pattern: he is… he has…

2. Difficulty: The pronunciations of medium height, medium build, curly hair and straight hair. The usage of is and has. The overlapping usage of adjectives.

Teaching methods Task-based teaching methods and the situational teaching method. In this lesson, I’ll mainly use the task-based teaching method and the situational teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let students learn in the real situations and finish tasks by listening and making dialogues. That can help students to get a better understanding of the key structures. Ⅴ

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Greetings and lead-in. T: How is everything going?

OK. Different students have different ideas. But I hope you can be happy every day no matter what happens. I will give you a smile face. (使用图形笔点出笑脸。) Today, I went to the station to meet my new friend. As you know, I never meet her before, which brings me a lot of trouble. It is very important to learn to describe a person. Today we’ll learn to how to describe a person. Unit 9 What does he look like?

Step 2 Present the new words. Show the new words directly with students’ appearance in class. A is tall. B is short.(使用遮挡板一个一个显示单词，使用刮刮卡显示图片。)

Step 3 Practice the new words 1.

Read the new words. 2.

Do the match work. 3.

Classify the words according to height, build and hair. 4.

Fill in the blanks with is and has. （使用白板笔做连线题，使用拖拽对单词进行分类。使用笔在希沃上直接填词。使用放大镜凸显is和has。）

T: I have a new friend. Her name is Amy. Now, she comes to the station to meet her friend. But there are so many people. They have different height, build and hair. Now please match the words with the pictures.

T: Can Amy find her friend？Let’s come to 1b and later you will know the answer. 2.

1b. Listen to the tape and finish the tasks. （学生在白板上直接书写1a的答案，插入音频文件，使用刮刮卡显示1b的答案。）

Pair work. T: There are ten persons in the picture. You must choose one as your friend. And, make conversations like this. Students imitate the conversations in 1a.

Then they will show their conversations in pairs. And circle the target person. （学生做完对话，使用聚光灯显示他所描述的人物。）

Step 6 2a,ab T: Next, we will meet three new friends. They are David, Sally and Peter. Then, finish the tasks in 2a and 2b. Lastly, ask students to draw the pictures of these three students. （首先插入音频文件。

Step 7 Show the picture of Messi. And practice the conversations. What does he look like? He is tall. He is of medium build.

He has short straight brown hair. He is strong. He is good at playing basketball. He is Lionel Messi. They need to know how to describe a person. Then they’ll describe a person correctly in the game. （拖入图片）

Guess game

The teacher shows one student the picture of his classmate. And he will describe him or her. Others will guess. Girls and boys will have a PK. （将手机和白板连接起来，教师先让一名学生看手机上的照片，然后这名学生在全班同学面前描述手机上的照片，其他同学来猜他是谁。一旦猜对了的话，教师就把照片传到白板上供大家验证。）
