教学过程：

Stage 1. Free talk Step 1: T. has a free talk with students about Thailand elephants. For example, “What can elephants do?”

“They can play soccer. / They can draw / they can…

”;

Step 2: T. directs students to talk about the background information of Thailand’s elephants, “where are they from?”

“They are from Thailand.”

“The first flag has a white elephant on it” and “elephants are the symbol of China.”

“But nowadays elephants are in great danger. People kill them for the ivory, ect.”

Step 3: Ss in small groups talk about “what should we do to save elephants? ” Ss express their opinions. Stage 2: While- reading Step 1: T. guides students to read the passage quickly and check (√) the best title for it. Step 2: Ss scan the passage to find the best title for the passage. “Let’s save the elephants.”

Step 3: T. checks the answers with students. Step 4: Ss read the passage again and find the answers for the following questions: “Where are the students from? / Are elephants smart animals? / Why are elephants in great danger? / When is Thai Elephant Day? “

Ss are able to retell the basic situation of Thailand’s elephants by using phrases and words “one of Thailand’s symbols, in great danger etc.”

Stage 3: Post-reading Step 1: Ss read the passage silently to find what they still unknown and then raise the questions for discussion. Step 2: Leads students to read the passage after the record if time is permitted.
