Let’s learn&Play card games 1.

Teaching topic: How do you feel? 2.

Period: fourth period 3.

Teaching objectives: 3.1.

Knowledge objectives: Students are able to listen, speak, and recognize the key vocabulary such as see a doctor, do more exercise, wear warm clothes, take a deep breath,count to ten, etc. as well as the sentence pattern “What should I do? You should……”

Students can read the key phrases and sentences with proper pronunciation and intonation. 3.2.

Ability objectives: Students will make use of the key phrases and sentence patterns in real-life situations to ask for advice with the sentence pattern “What should I do? ” and give right suggestions with the sentence pattern “You should (do something)...”

Their listening and speaking abilities can be improved. 3.3.

Emotion objectives: To help students understand the importance of loving others and helping others. 4.

Teaching key points and difficult points: How to make students grasp the new phrases and the sentence patterns. How to ask for advice and give right suggestions according

to someone’s feelings. 5. Teaching methods: Task-based language teaching and communicative approach 6.

Teaching aids:

Computer, blackboard, PPT 7.

Teaching procedure: Step I: Lead-in Greeting and brainstorm: Show students some pictures of different kinds of feelings,for example, happy, sad, angry, afraid, worried, hot, cold . Then the students say the words. Then teacher asks “What should we do when we have these different feelings?” Students give suggestions. Sept 2: Presentation 1.

Teacher presents pictures of the part “Let’s learn”, and asks “Who are they? How does Chen Jie / Wu Yifan/ Mike/ Oliver feel? What should he/she do?”

And ask the questions “What are they doing?”

and “What’s the weather like outside?”

which we learned before when presenting the picture 2 and picture 3. Ask these questions to help students to learn the new words and phrases and understand the meaning of these phrases. 2.

Teacher presents key phrases and sentence patterns by asking students to make sentences together.

Students read after the tap and teacher helps to correct students with their accents. Step 3: Practice

Activity 1: Look and match

Students look at the pictures which present the feelings of ill, tired, cold and angry and give the right suggestions quickly.

Activity 2: Fill in the blanks

Show four pictures which present the feelings of ill, tired, cold and angry and four dialogues in which the main sentence patterns are incomplete and some important words and phrases are missing. Students fill in the blanks and translate the dialogue.

Activity 3: Give right suggestions

Teacher shows some pictures of different feelings and suggestions. Students choose right suggestions according the different feelings. For example, when teacher choose the picture which presents “I’m ill.”

students should choose the pictures which present see a doctor, drink some hot water, take some medicine, have a rest, etc and say “You should see a doctor/ drink some water/ take some medicine/ have a rest,etc.”

Activity 4: Make a dialogue

Students work in the pairs to practice the key phrases and sentence patterns. For example: -How do you feel?

-I am cold. What should I do? -You should wear warm clothes and drink some hot water. At last, some pairs present their dialogues to the whole class. Step 4: Consolidation

Play card games Teacher prepares some cards with different feelings and asks one student choose a card, other students give right suggestions to her or him. Then students play card games in pairs and make dialogues according to the game. These sentence patterns should be used: “How do you feel? What should I do? You should...”

Then some students share their dialogues with the whole class. Step 5: Summary

Students summarize the language points they have learned in this lesson. Teacher makes supplements and emphasizes the importance of loving others and helping others. Step 6: Home work

Students are encouraged to collect more right suggestions about what we should do when we have different feelings. Students can also make a survey on what different things they always do when different people have the same feelings. Next class, you will share it with each other. 8.
