四、Teaching procedures Step 1

Introduction 1.

Greet the students and make them ready for learning. The teacher plays the video about Beijing. Then discuss the question:

What do you think of Beijing? 2. The teacher shows some pictures of places of interest in Beijing. And let the students discuss the following questions in pairs to lead the learning of 1a:

(1) Do you know anything else about Beijing?

(2) Do you want to explore Beijing? Step 2

Presentation 1. The teacher plays the flash of 1a. Ask the students to answer the following questions: (1)

Who is Darren? (2)

What was Darren doing while Michael was enjoying his trip? (3)

What did Michael invite Darren to do?

What did Michael want Kangkang to do?

The teacher plays the flash again. Check the answers together. 3.

The teacher plays the recording of 1a. Ask the students to tick what they hear in 1b. Check the answers. Step 3 Consolidation 1. The teacher lets the students listen to 1a again, and then do some tasks about 1a. (1)

find out the sentences about invitation, suggestion and request.

find out the sentences containing adverbial clauses of time in pairs. 2. Play the recording of 1a and let students read after it. 3. The teacher makes a summary to explain the key points and difficult points to the students: (1)

Explain adverbial clauses of time briefly. Step 4 Practice 1. The teacher asks the students to read the sentences of 1c alone and number the sentences. 2. lets the students read the sentences in the right order together. Try to retell it with the help of the teacher. 3. The teacher asks the students to read 2 and match the sentences. Then practice with their partners. 4. The teacher asks the students to look at the pictures of 3, and then make sentences with while or when. Ask some students write down their answers on the blackboard. Check the answers. Step 5

Summary We learn: 1. New words and phrases: receive, postcard, vacation, on vacation, explore, look forward to, camp, work out, seaside 2. New sentences: I’d like to speak to Michael.
