I Want Some Moon Cakes. 绵阳市成绵路小学

Part 1 To analyze the book I.

There are 14 lessons in Book 5. This is Lesson I. It is a lesson about buying food. The central item is to learn how to use the words and sentences to buy food in real situations.

II.

The students are in Grade 3. They have learnt the words about food and numbers. In this lesson, I’ll let the Ss use the words and the sentences to buy food.

So I make the teaching aims of this lesson as follows.

a. The first is the aims on the knowledge (1) To enable the Ss to understand and say the words of food and numbers: moon cake, apple, orange, pear, ice cream, ten, twenty, etc. Make sure that Ss can use these words to say, “I want some moon cakes.”

and answer the questions, “How many do you want?

How much are they?”

(2) To help Ss to understand the text and act out. (3) Let Ss practise to act as a s or a buyer. b.

The second is the aims on the abilities (1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, and working in pairs and groups. (2) To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation.

c. The third is the aims on the emotion (1)To foster Ss’ consciousness of good co-operation and proper competition. (2) To lead Ss to use English everywhere. III. Key-points of this lesson (1) To help Ss say the words of food, and say the sentences, e.g. “I want some moon cakes.”

(2) To enable Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully.

(3) To help the Ss answer some questions about this lesson, such as, “What does Tingting want? How many does she want?...”

IV. Difficult points (1) To help the Ss say the words and sentences clearly and make sure they can use the sentences to buy food. (2) To help the Ss answer questions about this lesson in their own words. (3)To finish the performance in groups, and then act in front of the blackboard. Part 2 Teaching methods and preparations

“Task-based”

teaching method is used in my lesson. And I will let the Ss learn in real situations. Activities and games are all through my teaching procedures: singing a song to lead in, guessing game to learn new sentences

and practice the sentences, listening and answering questions to learn the new text, acting to let Ss familiar with the dialogue, and having a competition. And in this lesson tape recorder, word cards, sentence cards and some pictures will be needed. Part 3. Teaching procedures and purposes of my design.

I’ll finish this lesson in six steps. Step 1. Warm-up( this procedure needs 4 minutes) 1. Free talk between T and Ss about their names, hobbies, etc. 2. Sing a song together, “Like and Love”

3. Divide the whole class into four teams to have a competition.

T asks Ss, “Do you like apples/oranges/pears?”

Ss answer yes, and they will be apple team, the orange team, banana team and the pear team. Purpose: It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss. Proper competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning.

And the song “Like and Love” will let the Ss think of the food they like. Step 2. Preview and presentation( this procedure needs 12 minutes) 1. Present the food words: ice cream, hamburger, orange, apple, pear,

Show a picture of shop, stick it on the Bb and say: Look! This is my shop, I have so many food in my shop. Today you are lucky. You can buy lots of food in my shop. Let’s see, what are they? T shows the cards of food and the Ss say their names.

Apple, apples, orange, oranges, pear, pears, hamburger, hamburgers, etc.

T takes out some oranges and say, “ There are so many oranges. Let’s count them. Ss will say, “1,2,3…20.”

T says, “Yes, 20 oranges. How many oranges?” Ss will answer with T, “ 20 oranges.”

Then count, “How many hamburgers?”

T: I like hamburgers. I want some hamburgers. ( T does the action “want”.) T: Do you want some hamburgers? Ss: Yes. T: I want some hamburgers.

Ss: I want some hamburgers. Play a guessing game. T puts some of the pictures under the book. T: Please guess. How many bananas do I want? Ss will answer the question as they like, 1,2, or 3.

2. Price learning. T takes out a picture of apple and says, “Oh, the apple looks nice. I want two apples. How much are they? Let me see. T turns back the card and see, “Oh, it’s 1 yuan. So one apple is one yuan. Two apples are two yuan.” T sticks the apple card and the price card on the blackboard. Then asks the Ss, “How much is the orange? How much are they?”…

Purpose: To enable the Ss’ ability of speaking. After these steps, Ss will use the food words and numbers easily. And they can use the sentences to talk with others. Step 3. Deal with the text( this procedure needs 11 minutes) 1. Present the text.

T: Mid-autumn Festival is coming. Tingting wants to buy some food for it. Show a picture about Mid-autumn Festival.

(1) Listen to the text and find: “What does Tingting want?” Listen once, Ss answer the questions.

(2)Listen again, Ss read after the tape and answer more questions, “How many does Tingting want? How much are they?”

(3)Listen the third time, Ss read after the tape sentence by sentence.

2. Read the text in roles. (1) T acts as the seller, and Ss act Tingting. (2)T1 and T2 act seller, T3 and T4 act Tingting. Then change their roles. (3)Ss work in pairs. One is seller, and one is Tingting. (4)Two of the Ss act the text in front of the Bb.

Purpose: Reading and acting can let the Ss understand the dialogue clearly. Step 4 Extension( this procedure needs 5 minutes) 1.T: Tingting bought some moon cakes for Mid-autumn Festival. And she wants some other food. But she can’t go to the shop now. Can you help Tingting? Let’s help Tingting to buy four pears, seven apples, five oranges, six hamurgers. T shows pictures of pears and asks Ss: Can I help you? Ss: I want some pears.

T: How many do you want? Ss: Four, please. I want four. T: Here you are.

Ss: How much are they? T: Eight yuan. 2. Some of the Ss will come to help Tingting to buy some food. 3. One of the Ss come to act as the seller, others will buy food for Tingting. Purpose: Lead the Ss use the sentences correctly. To enable the Ss’ ability of speaking Step 5 Group work( this procedure needs 5 minutes) Four Ss a group. The group leaders will be the sellers, and other three Ss will buy food.

Then some of the groups act in front of the Bb.

Purpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss’ abilities of communication and co-operation. Step 6. Homework( this procedure needs 2 minutes) 1. Play some games about “Buy things” after class. 2. Read the text. Purpose: Revision is so important that Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned.
