Teaching aims:
1.
Students can understand the development of the story, read it and act it out; 2.
Students can understand that the letters c and k can both make the sound of /k/; 3.
Students can be aware of the importance of taking care of pets. Focus points and difficult points:

To let students have a clear picture about the development of the story by explaining the pictures, after which the task-based listening will be involved; 2.
To let students read the story; 3.
To have adaptation of the story to make a new one. Teaching preparation:

PPT; 2.
Recording of the text. Teaching procedure: (T=teacher, S=student) 1.
Revision: T shows the pictures of last lesson and asks Ss to read the story out. 2.
Warming-up: T shows some pictures of cats on the PPT. T: Boys and girls, what are they?
S: They are cats. T: Yes. Do you like cats? T shows a video of funny moments about cats.
T: Cats are very cute and funny, right?
S: Yes.
T: Today, we’re going to learn a story about a cat too. 3.
Pre-reading: T shows the title picture and asks Ss to read the title.
T (point at the bell): Boys and girls, look! This is a bell. What is it used for? 4.
Telling the story:
T (show Picture 1): What’s the name of the cat? Is Catkin a good name for it? Why? (pay attention to the spelling of Catkin) T (show Picture 2): Why did Catkin run off? Where did Catkin go? T (show Picture 3): How do you think Wilma felt when she realised she had lost Catkin? T (show Picture 7): How do you think Wilma felt when she found Catkin? T (show Picture 8): What do you think of Catkin? 5.

Listen and imitate: T: Let’s listen one more time. This time, please try to imitate

Read the story: Read in groups. Let’s read together/ in groups/ boys and girls. Present in groups. 6.
Post-reading: (1)
Readers’ theatre: T asks Ss to have a group work to read the story by different characters. (2)
Adaptation: T asks Ss to change the characters and settings of the story to make a new one. e.g.

Listen to the story and read it skillfully and dramatically. (2)
