Ⅰ. Basic information: Level: Junior One Teaching Material: Oxford English (2013), Book 7B, P43 Teaching content: Unit 4 Project. Save the trees

Lesson length: 40 minutes

Ⅱ. Text analysis:

The topic of Unit 4 is Save the trees. In the Reading section, students are expected to know about the contributions that trees make in cleaning the air, protecting the environment and providing useful things. In the Listening section, students get to know some facts about pine trees. In the Writing section, students should learn how to describe process of planting trees. In the More Practice sections, students will learn about the importance the Amazon rainforest has and the endangered situation it faces. After the whole unit study, students should learn the functions of trees, the damaging behaviors to trees as well as how to save trees. Therefore, the Project section is first to review what we have learnt in the previous lessons and then write a letter to advocate saving the trees.

Ⅲ. Student analysis: Firstly, students in Junior One tend to be active and are willing to explore the unknown knowledge. However, they may not be used to working in groups and completing tasks in English, so I will organize the lesson in English and design some exercises that should be done in groups. Secondly, students have learnt the importance of trees, the damaging behaviors to tees but most of them may fail to write an advocating letter to save the trees. In this case, this lesson is trying to help students have a better understanding of how to write a proposal letter to save the trees and provide oral practice to promote their oral proficiency

Ⅳ.Teaching aims:

1. Language ability aims a. Review words to talk about functions of trees, including take in, harmful gases, produce, oxygen, convenient

and learn wasting behaviors to trees, like use throwaway chopsticks, write only one side of the paper, use too many pencils, burn wood to cook food, throw away newspapers and magazines

b. Apply writing skills. 2. Cultural quality aims: a. Know more about how trees are important to people, trees are in danger and what bad deeds some students do to trees.

b. Inspire students to save the trees and protect the world

3. Learning ability aims: a. Cooperate with classmates to complete a task. b. Cultivate problem-solving skills.

Students can master the writing skills and apply the expressions to their output activities.

Ⅵ. Teaching concepts:

My teaching philosophy is greatly influenced by “learning by doing” from Pragmatism and TBLT——Task-Based Language Teaching. According to American educationalist John Dewey, “learning by doing” refers to giving students something to do, not something to learn, in which case learning naturally results. Based on this philosophy, a real task is designed to encourage the students to learn from helping solve the problem.

Besides, during the process of reading, students will discover and accumulate some useful expressions and sentence patterns on their own instead of being taught directly. After that, the task is provided for them to use the expressions they have learned previously. In this case, they can have a better understanding of how to express their feelings about seasons orally.

During the teaching process, the role of the teacher is a guide, who is supposed to guide the students to analyze the teaching materials and find out the way to describe seasons on their own through a variety of tasks.
