Teaching Design of Section A, Topic 2, Unit 8 Teaching aims: 1. Master the new words and phrases: depend, discipline, survey, interview, depend on. 2. Be able to use the object clauses introduced by question words: Can you tell me what style you like? 3. Be able to talk about uniforms and how to design uniforms in English. 4. Develop the students’ imagination and creativity. Key & difficult points:

1. Be able to use the object clauses introduced by question words: Can you tell me what style you like? 2. Be able to talk about uniforms and how to design uniforms in English. Teaching procedures: Step 1 New words & Lead-in 1. Greet with the students. 2. Show a picture of the teacher wearing her school uniform and ask the students, “Do you like my school uniform?”

3. Show some pictures of their classmates wearing their school uniforms and ask the students, “Do you like your school uniforms? Let’s do/make a survey.” (Teach the new word “survey”.) And ask about the reason, “Let me interview some of you” (The teacher interviews two students about the reason why they like or dislike the school uniforms. Teach the new word “interview”.) 4. Show some pictures of beautiful school uniforms and ask the students, “Do you like their school uniforms?”

5. Ask the students, “Will school uniforms look ugly on us?” Then answer, “Not really. It depends on whether it’s nice or not.” (Teach the new phrase “depend on”.) 6. Ask the students, “Why should students wear school uniforms?” Then answer, “I think suitable clothes can show good discipline.”

(Teach the new word “discipline”.) Step 2 Presentation 1. Listen to 1a for the main idea. 2. Listen to 1a for someone’s ideas.

Preparation for the project in Step 4.

(Purpose: to learn the object clauses introduced by wh-/how.) Tell the students they’re going to design their own class uniforms for the coming art festival. They should work in groups of four and talk about the styles, colors and materials of the class uniforms and where to make them. Use the sentence pattern: Can you tell me what style you like? The teacher should set the language example first and let the students pay attention to the order of object clauses.
