Step 1 Lead-in

Greeting the class and let the students talk about some traffic signs. Then ask some of them to speak out the signs one by one. Let them do it as soon as possible.

Step 2 Presentation

Look at a picture about 1a and introduce something about it. Next lead to the new words careless,

helmet

and light-colored. Then show some questions to the students and ask them to read by themselves. Check their answers. Let the students listen to la and find out the sentences about giving advice. Finish 1b. Then read the sentences in 1b together .After finishing 1b, ask students to listen to 1a again and find out the adverbial clauses of condition or the difficult points. Then ask some students to try to explain them by themselves. The teacher can add something.

Step 3 Consolidation

Play a video of 1a and ask students to read after it. Next let them read by roles. Then read together. After reading it, let students fill in the blanks according to 1a. Ask them to do it together. Let students discuss in groups the result of breaking the traffic rules with “if”. Then look at the four pictures in 2a and discuss them with “if”. Choose some students to check their answers. Last ask them to read the sentences together.

Step 4 Practice

Ask the students to match the parts of sentences to make traffic rules.

Let the work in pairs to discuss them .Then check the answers in the class. Choose some of the students to answer 2b and read the traffic rules. After finishing 2b, let students discuss the question What should we do to keep the road safer. Work in pairs and try to use some sentences they have learned in the class. Finally do some exercises and choose some students to answer them.

Step 5 Summary

Encourage the students to summarize what they have learned today. Then assign the homework.
