Robin and the Ant

Teaching Content: Unit 6 in Book 7 of PEP Primary English, Read and write. Teaching aims:

Knowledge Objectives：

After the class, students are able to

(1)understand and identify the new words:ant /stuck /mud/ pull /everyone. (2)get the general idea and some detailed information of the story. (3)be able to read the story aloud and write some key words and sentences. Ability Objectives: After the class, students are able to

(1)get the general idea by fast reading and specific information by careful reading. (2)read and write some key words and sentences. (3)voice their opinions on “friend”.

Emotion Objectives: After the class, students are able to

(1) cultivate consciousness of cooperation. (2)ready to help others. Analysis of the students:

Students in Grade 6 already have a basic command of English. They have mastered a certain vocabulary. They can read and understand this story by themselves. It can help students improve their ability of reading and will lay the foundation for future learning in junior high school. Key and difficult points: (1)Guide students to learn some new words. (2)Guide students to master some reading skills. (3)Guide students to use the mind map to retell the story. Teaching methods:

Language is used for communication. To cultivate the students’ abilities of reading and speaking, and to arouse their interest, I’ll mainly use the following teaching methods in this lesson: ①

Task-based method. ②Communicative method. ③

Discussing method. Teaching aids: Pictures,cards,VCR and PPT. Procedures: Step Ⅰ Warm-up Greet students. Talk about the weather and their feelings. Step Ⅱ Lead-in Show 3 pictures and let students express their feelings.

[Purpose: Review the words about expression we learned last class and prepare for the story we will read.] Step Ⅲ Pre-reading Ask students to predict what the story is about. Show the picture of Robin and the ant. What’s the story about?

Students look at the picture and title .Then they can give the answer. [Purpose: Guide students to get some useful information from the title and picture.Knowing what the story is about is beneficial for understanding the whole story.] Step Ⅳ While-reading 1. Fast- reading Let students read the story quickly and answer the question:

What does the story tell us? A.We should always be nice to each other. B.We shouldn’t hurt ants.

Students use one minute to read the story fast and then give the answer. [Purpose: Help students know the general idea of the story.] 2. Careful- reading Let students read paragraphs 1~3 carefully and answer the following questions.

(1)Robin is going to sit on the grass ,the little ant is afraid.If you were the little ant ,what would you say to Robin ?

(2)When Robin is out of the mud, what may Robin say to the little ant? [Purpose: Get students involved in the story.They can use their imagination to speak out their ideas. It can also arouse students’ awareness of culture.]

Step Ⅴ Post-reading

Retelling the story. (1)Teacher plays the recording of the story. Students listen and then fill the blanks to retell the story.

. (2)Teacher encourages students to look at the mind map on the blackboard to retell the whole story and learn to write passage like this. [Purpose: Guide students to look back upon the whole story and write some key words in the story.]

2.Sharing another story and free-talking Teacher plays a video named “The Lion and the Mouse”.

Guide students to think about the questions: In the video, the big lion and the small mouse finally become friends. In the story we learned today,Robin is big,the ant is small. Do you think they can be good friends ? Why or why not?

Students can voice their opinions.Choose the right words from 24 words from core values.And encourage students to learn from the story for the China Dream.

[Purpose: Students can form their own values on “China Dream”by discussing the question.] Step VI Homework: (You can choose one of the items) 1. Read the story “Robin and the ant”.
