Meet four new friends T: Today we’ll meet four new friends, and they will talk about different seasons in different places. Do you want to know? Look , this is Jack, this is Kevin, this girl is Judy, and this one is Amy. Where are they from? Have a look at the map.

kind of air Pollution: haze. When the hazy weather comes, we can’t breathe. smoke, dust and particles are bad for our health. If we walk in the street, can we

see things clearly? S: No, we can’t. T: If it comes, how do you feel? (happy/sad/ uncomfortable) T: So, what cause the phenomenon? Look at the pictures. T: Yes, it is caused by the emissions from too many cars and the factories. T: From the causes, could you think about how to help reduce the phenomenon?

Discuss in groups of four! T: we should take more public transport. For example: we can take a bus. We can ride a bike. We can also take a train. For me, if I want to go to San Yang Plaza, I’ll go there by metro. It’s very convenient, isn’t it? And we can go there on foot too. What should the factories do?

S: They are not allowed to emit waste gases. T: Yeah, and we should develop new energy. What new energy? T: Bingo! Solar energy, wind energy and hydroenergy. They are all clean energy. Enjoy some pictures Look at the pictures. They are standing in sunshine. They are jumping. The penguin mother kisses her baby. And this is a family, mother, father and two babies. I like polar bears too. Look, how cute it is! They are playing with each other. The baby follows her mother. They are walking. They are very happy!

S: penguins and polar bears can’t find any food. They have to wait for death. T: look at the penguin mother and her baby, they are so sad. And this polar bear is 3

very thin. Poor guys they are. What happened? Why can’t they find any food? T: Look, their hometown is melting. The glaciers are melting. Why? S: because of the global warming. T: Yeah, the temperature is getting higher and higher. And this is caused by excessive deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Do you like penguins and polar bears? What can we do to help them? T: We should save the forests and plant more trees. Reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Develop new energy: solar energy, wind energy, and hydroenergy. Step three:Conclusion: Up to now, we have learnt about the situation faced by penguins and polar bears. A small step can make a big difference.
