1.Can read and understand the dialogue;

2.Can comfort your friend when they feel bad.

3.Can give some suggestions to them.

Feel sympathy for others. How to comfort people.

Teaching Aids:

VCD, Books, PPT

Teaching Procedure:

Step 1: Warm-up

Greetings and free talk: How do you fee? If I feel…, what should I do?

Step 2: Presentation.

Do “let’s try”: Who is ill? What’s wrong with Dad?

Step 3: Practice and consolidation. .

1. Listen to the dialogue and answer the questions:

1. What’s wrong with Dad?2.What should he do?

3. How does Sam feel? 4. What should Sam do?

2. Read after the VCD, try to read like the record.

3. Role play the dialogue.1. Read after VCD and say something about Mike’s uncle.

4.Think about: If you are Sam, what will say to your dad?

5. More example about comforting people:

If your friend is ill. What should you say to him?

If someone feels cold. What should you say to him?

If someone feels angry. What should you say to him?

If someone feels worried about the test. What should you say to him?

Step4: Production

1. Make a dialogue in pairs:

1.T and student talk: If your friend is very sad, what should you say to her.

2.There are four situations, each group talk one in pairs.

2. Do some exercise;
