Topic 2 We can design our own uniforms

Teaching aims

1. Knowledge aims

(1) Students should master and use the key words and phrases properly, such as

depend, survey, interview, discipline, carry out, depend on, plain clothes and so on.

(2) Students should know how to use Can you tell me what Miss Wang says?

/ She asks what materials they should choose. /It depends on who will design the school uniform.2. Ability aims (1). Students are able to say the description of uniforms；

(2). Students can understand the correct usage of police

uniforms、class uniforms and school uniforms.

(3). Students can read the object clauses fluently. 3. Emotional aims (1). By pair works and group works, students can improve their awareness of cooperating with others.

(2). By learning uniforms, students can make their own clothes choice depend on their likes and dislikes.

(3). It’s true that suitable uniforms can show good discipline.

The key points and difficult points 1. The key and difficult points of this lesson are the new phrases and sentences about uniforms, such as survey, interview, and discipline.

2. How to design their own school uniforms by themselves.

Teaching procedures Stage 1: Greeting and lead-in (3 min) Step 1:

Show

a class uniform to warm the class up. Greet students with some simple words. The teacher can ask the whole class “Attention, please! Look here!

This is our class uniform! We designed it for last school sports meeting, right? In this class, we will talk about something about our clothes.”

Step 2: Arrange some three tasks for them, present a picture about uniforms.

The teacher can introduce like this “Boys

and girls, different jobs need different uniforms. Let me show you who would wear uniforms.”

(Purpose of design：Set the warm atmosphere to attract the student’s interest by showing a familiar class uniform. To enable student to prepare for the next activity about uniforms)

Stage 2: Presentation (10 min)

Step1: Present a picture about different uniforms. Students can learn different jobs

Step 2: Teachers introduce the usage of police uniforms.

The teachers can teach like this，

“Just take police uniforms for example, policemen usually wear uniforms when we are at work. But sometimes they wear plain clothes to carry out a special task. It’s true that suitable uniforms can show good discipline.”

Student can learn the new words such as discipline.

Step 3:

Play a little game. The teacher can show a lucky bottle to students and ask one of students to make a draw.

The teachers can show like this, “Boys

and girls, please recite discipline by yourself. One minute for you to prepare. Let’s begin. After one minute, let’s check which group has the best memory. ”

“There is a lucky bottle. There are many draws in it. Who wants to choose one of them? Hands up? ”

“OK, you guys should spell the word one by one and tell us the Chinese meaning.

One answer, one point.

Can you catch me?”

Use the same way to teach “plain, discipline, interview, survey, carry out, depend on…”

(Purpose of design：To encourage students to learn the words about uniforms according to pictures and get ready for listening practice .)

Step 4:

Listen to the tape.

Play the tape of 2a and let students finish answers on their textbooks.

The teachers can lead to 2a like this, “ Kangkang is interviewing a policewoman. Let’s listen to their conversation between them to find out more detail. Please put A,B and C in the right places while listening. Before listening, you can read the conversation silently for 30 seconds to prepare. ”

Step 5: Check the answers.

(purpose of design：To allow them to understand others better by listening. To be familiar with the usage of police uniforms and know detail about police. )

Step 6: Lead to 1a with a class photo. Everyone in class wears class uniform in the photo.

Listen to 1a and answer the following questions. The teachers can lead to 2a like this, “Just now, we knew that policemen usually wear uniforms, but sometimes they wear plain clothes to carry out special tasks. As for us, we also wear class uniform on special occasions. Have a look at our photos. Find yourself quickly. ”

“The study monitor says that suitable uniforms can show good discipline. But monitor in our class says that school uniform look ugly on us. What should we do? Please find out what Miss Wang says.”

(purpose of design：To allow them to understand discipline. To set a real atmosphere to attract students’ interest.

)

Stage 3: Consolidation (15 min)

Step 1:

Listen and follow the flash.

Remind students to pay attention to pronunciation and intonation.

Step 2:

Play role-playing game, give student five minutes to prepare.

I will give you five minutes to prepare. If you have any questions, you can turn to others. The whole class, stand up! Now, action! Step 3: Explain the object clauses.

Explain the meaning in details and ask students to read the sentences together.

The teachers can teach like this, “There are two object clauses introduced by

wh- words. Please find it quickly and read it out loudly.”

(Purpose of design：use the group competition to raise their awareness of cooperation and competition. To enable students master the teaching materials and get ready for outputting of language in practical life)

Stage 4: Extension (12 min)

Step 1: Present the picture about school uniform.

Here comes Task 3. Set up a situation.

The teachers can teach like this,“We have the chance to design school uniforms by ourselves. We’d better survey the students about the styles of uniforms. Please discuss with your group members how to design our school uniforms. After discussing, one of you should make a report in front of the class. ”

Show them a simple draw and inquire them finish their works. (Purpose of design：To draw a picture of uniform using the target language. To plant the idea in their mind that students should design their school uniforms in a right way to show good discipline and they can design their own school uniforms depend on their likes and dislikes)

Step 2: Ask students to work in groups to prepare. Step 3: Show time.

(Purpose of design：To encourage students to speak English in public and have a clear understanding of the importance of using English)

Stage 5:

Summary and homework (5 min)

Step 1: Sum up what they have learnt in this class today.

Step 2: Assign the homework

The teachers can teach like this

“You guys should go on finishing your works and hand in before next class”.

Step 3: Sum up their behavior in this class and encourage them on time.

(Purpose of design：To help students consolidation the language points of this lesson more purposely.)
