Contents:

2. Reading: King Or Queen for a Day

Objectives:

Objectives for students

(1). Students can correctly pronounce the following words and phrases, understand their meanings and correctly use them orally: king queen common raise Canadian It’s +adj+for sb to do sth

sth cost sb money

(2). Students are able to improve their integrated language learning skills, especially using the following reading skills, such as finding out the main idea of each part, reading for key information,

to comprehend the text’s main idea and details.

(3)Students can find out the key words in Part 1.Students can answer the questions according to Part 2.Students can find out the missing words in Part 3. (5). Students can learn to work cooperatively and shoulder separate responsibilities in group work. Objectives for the teacher I will create a student-friendly classroom environment where students can feel free to share their ideas;

I will adjust the difficulty levels of the questions I raise and assign different levels of tasks according to the students’ reactions.

Focal points: Make a full understanding of the whole passage

by reading step by step ,try to improve their reading skills and also they can find out the advantages and disadvantages of the game. Difficult points: 1.

Find out the key words

2.Share their opinions of the game. Procedures and Time Allotment Stage 1: Getting students ready for learning (2 minutes)

Play a song sung by Tailor Swift called a place in this world.It’s a lively song full of energy.

(Purpose: Create a student-friendly situation to ease students’ nervousness and motivate students’ learning interest

and also

lead in the new lesson by talking about the song and the singer Tailor Swift who is quite popular with the young students.) Stage 2: Pre-reading (6 minutes) 1.

Talk about the singer of the song and create a situation that one of my friends Michael would like to go to the concert held by Tailor Swift ,but he doesn’t have enough money.And ask the students to think of some ways to help Michael to raise enough money for the concert. 2.

Play a game called The lucky game.It’s similar to the game King or Queen for a Day in the passage. (Purpose:Make the students interested in the ways of raising money and try to stimulate their creativity of raising money .BY playing the game ,on one hand ,I can stimulate their interest in the lesson .On the other hand ,I can help them better understand the whole passage.

Stage 3: While-reading (13 minutes) Step 1:Choosing the main idea of each part(There are altogether 3 parts put by the teacher ) Individual work: students read quickly to choose

the main idea of the passage,

(Purpose: to improve students’ reading skill of

summarizing the main idea ) Step 2: Understanding each part step by step Task 1: (1). Students read paragraph 1 and find out the key words about raising money. (Purpose 1: to improve students’ ability to find out the key words so that they can make the reading much easier) Task 2: (1). Students read Part 2 and answer the three questions (1)

How much does each ticket cost? (2)

How many tickets are drawn? (3)

Who will be the king or queen for the next school day?

(Purpose: to improve students’ ability to locate the information needed.)

Task 3: Students read part 3and ask them to pay attention to the verbs in this part and try to remember them.After reading ,try to find out the missing words.

(Purpose: to improve students’ ability of reading carefully and finding out the key information needed.) Stage 4: Post-reading (18 minutes) Step 1: Group work. Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the game. Students work in groups of 4. They are encouraged to think of their opinions of their own. They are encouraged to be as creative as possible. Group members play different roles.One student：find out the advantages One student:

find out the disadvantages One student:take some notes One student:give a report.

(Purpose: to train the students’ ability of working in a group and develop their imagination and

ability to go deeper into a passage expressing their own ideas

and be brave enough to report.)

Stage 5: Conclusion (1 minute) The teacher thanks the students for their active participation and cooperation in the class, encourages them to work hard to get happiness instead of waiting for the good luck.Because the harder we work ,the luckier we will be and

more importantly try to be a real king or queen.Try to be kind,brave and try to be a person who has dreams ,no matter what happens ,never give up.Only be a real king or queen,and our life will be blingbling!

(Purpose: to guide the students to have a better understanding of king or queen,and try to be strong in their daily life ,no matter what happens!)
