Unit 6: Good Habits –Reading and Writing

1. The students of grade fifth have mastered what Vocabulary & Target teaches and have an easier access to this part. Analysis of 2.

Most of the students have learnt English at least two years.

They show active and curious attitude in English but some of them are unwilling to the students open the mouths to speak out. Analysis of the materials Unit 6: Good Habits –Reading and Writing. This lesson is about the Toto’s good habits. 1.To grasp words and phrases: wear/ right/wrong 2. To master sentences pattern: A: He usually packs/takes out/ cleans up…

B: Toto is not wearing…when he goes to school.

Teaching Steps

1.Warm up and review T: ①start by a Game(Sharp Eyes), ask Ss to speak out the words that they have learned in this Unit( brush teeth, wash face, comb hair..)

② Free talk----what’s your habit?/ What’s his/her habits? (Intention: Game is an interesting way to focus on Ss’

attention, also it can help Ss to review the knowledge they learnt. It creates the conditions of a relaxed and natural atmosphere for children’s learning. The free talk can help Ss to review the habits that they have learn, and also lead to the today’s topic )

2.Pre-reading Step 1: Introduction Teacher introduces the main character Toto with the help of Gogo who Ss is familiar with.

Step 2: Exercise One—Choose the right answers From the first listening,, Ss know this passage is about Toto’

habits, so that T elicits the topic: what’re Toto’s habits?

eg. Go to bed early/ eat breakfast everyday…

(Intention: this part consists of two steps. The first step is Introduction, the new character Toto stimulate the reading desire. In the second part, in this step, T makes a dialogue with Ss, which develop Ss’ ability to listen、to speak.)

3.While-reading (15mins)

Step 1: the second paragraph teaching Listen and answer questions

When does Toto usually do in the evening? (Intention: This task can help Ss to get the general idea and train Ss’

ability to find some information quickly.)

Step 2: the third paragraph teaching 1.

What does Toto do in the morning? What does he usually do in the evening? A: brushes his teeth

What time does Toto get up? He gets up at 6:00. (Intention: the task considers that children are weak in detail reading. So that the questions affording can train their ability to find some detail information. Also can make Ss have a better understanding about this passage.) Step 3: the fourth paragraph learning ①

The new words learning: wrong, right (night), wear (bear). ②

Listen and read in group

Answer question:

Is Toto wearing the right clothes when he goes to school today? Eg: Post-reading Step 1: Retell

Encourage Ss to retell the Toto’ good habits and the wrong thing he did. (according the blackboard design) Step 2: Finish the exercise paper.

(Intention: the post-reading part is an important part for students can

consolidate and digest the knowledge.

It offers the chance for Ss to retell the passage, improving their spoken skill) 4. Revision-----Game Time (5mins)

Use the game----- the musical chair to light Ss’

is high; in order to solidify the knowledge they learnt in class and improve students’ integrated language skills, the teacher ought to design some relevant homework.)
