Step 1.Warm-up
1. Greeting
T: Hello, boys and girls, how are you today? What day is it today?
Step 2.Presentation 1. Lead-in T: How do you go back to school after the weekend? After a few answers, show pictures about some transports students have mentioned, lead to the transport of today’s topic- subway. 2. Pre-reading T: There are different names for the subway in the world, do you want to find out what they are? Now, please open your book to page 54, I will give you one minute, read part 1 carefully. Underline the cities and names for the subway too. 3. While-reading (1)Show the PPT about the signs in each city and ask questions. T: Look at these signs, where is the first one? How about the second sign? Next one? Well done, number four, which city do you think? And last one? Practise the pronunciation about names of the subway if necessary. (2)T: Excellent. Now please listen to CD, and read. Are you ready? After listening and reading, T ask students to think about some names for the children on the book. (3)T: Have a look at these five children, do you know them? How about giving them names? Students name the five kids and T show an example to make a sentence related to the key sentence in this
unit. Write them down on the blackboard as well. T: Jack usually takes the underground to school in London, right? How about Annie? Annie...(give one more example if they don’t get this part) (4)Show PPT about another chart, give one example. T: Now, let’s please finish this exercise with your partner, write down city and name of the subway. 3 minutes. Check answers together. Go through more details about the passage on the PPT. T explain and write down words about the text. (5)
Read the text together. 4. After-reading (6)
T: Let’s enjoy a video about the top ten most beautiful Metro stations in the world, do you know what “top ten” is? Yes, right, it’s ten subways in the world showed from number 1 to number 10.
Step 3. Consolidation and extension Teacher show more kinds of transports in the world and practise with an activity. T: There are more kinds of transports we use every day. Can you tell me any kinds? Then show the PPT about more kinds of transports. Lead to next topic about some special transports in some cities. T: These are four pictures with some special transports people use, I want you work with your partner, to match A to D with the short passage from 1 to 4. I will give you 3 minutes. Hands up when you finish.
