Unit 7 Topic 3 Section A Teaching idea: Language- learning is based on practice. Practice makes perfect. But our students lack this kind of environment, so in my teaching process, I usually create some situations for students to learn English, that is agreeable with the theory of learning by doing, doing is to learn. And also I pay much attention to train students’

ability of observing, listening, understanding and speaking. Meanwhile, the students’ moral education should be highlighted, which is also important to some extent. Design of teaching: This section is from Section A, Topic 3, Unit 7 of Book 8 in Ren'ai Project English. As we know, we learned preparing for the food festival in Topic 1, and in Topic 2, we learned how to cook different kinds of delicious foods for the food festival, so in this topic, we will naturally begin the children's expected food festival, in which, we will learn how to make an opening speech in the food festival and how to order and offer in the food festival or even in a restaurant, that is our teaching aims and also our teaching key points. And I think it is also our teaching difficult points. Because our students lack the speaking environment, so it’s not easy for them to put what they learned into practice. To solve this problem, I adapted the method of creating a situation and setting some questions in teaching. Meanwhile, I used the projector, slide show, a recorder to help my class-having. And meanwhile I used some bow- ties, menu, bill, some drinks and foods to help students to act the dialogue out, which made the class more vivid and interesting. Time collocation: Lead-in: 3 minutes; Presentation: 9 minutes; Practice: 10 minutes; Consolidation: 15 minutes; Summary: 2 minutes; Homework-assignment: 1minutes Teaching process Step1 Lead-in Show some pictures of poor children both in China and Africa to arouse students’

Then the teacher here can teach the new words “kind-hearted”, “satisfy”, “guest”,

and then talk about Kangkang and his classmates’ food festival to consolidate the new words they learned and lead to the new lesson. Step 2 Presentation Shows the picture of the food festival and asks students some questions below to lead to the opening speech in the food festival. For example: T: Let’s join in their food festival together. (The teacher shows the picture of the food festival and asks the following questions) T: Can you see the two persons with microphones in their hands in the middle of the picture? Ss: Yes. T: Can you guess what role they act as in the food festival? Ss: The host/the hostess. 2. Raise another question accordingly: Can you guess what they are maybe saying? Then let students think about how to make an opening speech for the food festival and then speak them out. 3. Asks students to listen to 1 to get some information about the opening speech in the food festival and meanwhile let them try to mark out the useful expressions about the opening speech. 4.The teacher leads students to summarize the content of each paragraph for students’

understanding of the opening speech in the food festival. 5. Let students read 1 in roles. Step 3 Practice Let students listen to 2a and fill in the blanks given by the teacher, then check the answers and learn the word “menu”

and explain some language points if necessary. For example: T: Do all the guests enjoy themselves? We’d better serve them. Oh, Mr. Yang and Mrs. Yang are coming, let’s welcome them. Then play the first part of the tape for 1a, and then check the answers. Show the picture of ordering and offering in a restaurant to lead students to think about how to order or offer in a restaurant. For example: T: With the menu in Mr. Yang’s and Mrs. Yang’s hands, what they will do next? Ss: They will order foods. T: Ok, do you know how to order? Just think about it. S1: I’d like…

S2: May I take your order? S3: Would you like something to drink? S4: anything else? S5: How about or what about…? Let students learn two new words “wine”, “beer”. Explain “soft drink”; Listen to the second part of 2a(offering and ordering the foods or drinks) to answer the question “What do Mr. Yang and Mrs. Yang order for their meal?” and then check the answers. Show another picture about paying the bill to learn the new word “bill”

and listen to the last part of 2a and answer the question “ How much does the meal cost Mr. Yang?” , then check the answers and explain some key language points. Step 4 Consolidation Let students listen to 2a with the flash as a whole and follow, paying attention to the pronunciation, intonation and some gestures. Let students read it in roles, then give a surposed situation for students to act

it out in groups. Step 5 Summary Have a summary about what the students learned in this period and them let them read together. Step 6 Homework-assignment 1. Collect the words about food and drinks the students learned and then classify all the words. 2. Write a dialogue about having a meal in a restaurant(not less than 10 sentences).
