Module 5 unit 1
We went to the Great Wall.
Today I’m going to talk about module 5 unit 1,NEW STANDARD ENGLISH , Grade 4:We went to the Great Wall.This lesson includes three parts: Text, Listen and say and Practise.
1. Teaching Aims
(1) New words: the Great Wall, climb, mountain (2)To enable the Ss to understand and use Irregular Verbs: go—went , have—had, see—saw, buy—bought, eat—ate
(3) New text. (4)New structures: We went to the Great Wall.
We saw lots of mountains.
We ate apples.
We had a good time.
2. Aims on the abilities
(1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking.
(2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups. (3) To foster Ss’ ability of communication.
3. Difficult points
To help the Ss use irregular verbs and make sure they can use the past tense correctly.
4. Teaching methods
As we all know: the main aims of learning English in primary school is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method.
I will arrange three kinds of activities: singing, passing a ball game and having a competition. And in this lesson a recorder, flashcard, CAI, ball and PPT will be needed.
I’ll finish this lesson in five steps.
Step 1. Warm-up and preview
Sing the song together: Children from China are Chinese.
Purpose:
It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss by singing .
Step 2. Lead-in:
1. To play a passing ball game and ask a question:
What do you like? (PPT)
Ss answer it : I like _________. 2. To ask students "Do you know what do I like?"
Let Ss guess.
To tell them "I like travelling." and show them my travelling's pictures on PPT.
Use past tense and tell them "Last year, I went to Thailand. And this year, I went to
Malaysia. I was very happy. I had a good time."
Purpose: Lead-in new lesson by "I like travelling." and show them new structures
"I had a good time."
Step 3: Text. 1. To ask them: "Now I also know Sam and Daming went to a great place in Beijing. Where did they go?
Let’s learn Module 5 Unit 1. We went to the Great Wall."
2. Ask them" Where did they go?"
Use CAI.
Let a student answer it: They went to the Great Wall.
Show f/c :the Great Wall.
Show the Great Wall's pictures. "This is the Great Wall. It’s wonderful."
Read it by girls and boys and one by one, then write it on the blackboard. Let
students use their finger write it on the air.
Let student introduce "the Great Wall",show PPT. 3. To tell them Usually we use “go”, but in past tense we use "went"
Read.

write it on the Blackboard. Ask them: Where did you go on summer vacation? Ss answer it:
I went to __________. Work in pairs and feedback.
4. Ask them Sam and Daming talked with Daming’s father.
What did Daming’s father want to know? Let’s see it. Show PPT
Show questions:

What did you eat?
What did you buy?
1) Tell them: We usually use “see”, but in past tense we use “saw”(PPT)

2) Tell them Usually we use “eat”, but in past tense we use “ate”.
Show f/c "ate"

Read it.
3) Tell themUsually we use “buy”, but in past tense we use “bought”

Read it.
5.Tell them: "Let’s listen again and try to answer these questions.Take out your pencil and underline the sentences."
Play the tape and let student answer the questions.
Show PPT.
1) Ask question "What did you see?"
One student answer it: We saw lots of mountains.(PPT)
Show f/c: mountain
Read it by students stand up and sit down and read it one by one and read the sentence.
2) Ask question: What did you eat?
One student answer it: They ate biscuits and apples.
Read the sentence.
3) Ask question: What did you buy?
One student answer it: We bought a picture of the Great Wall.
Read the sentence.
6. Play the tape and students read again.
Explain the words: climb, had and read it.
Let students find “went, saw, ate, had, bought” and circle it.
Take one student’s book to show and check.
Purpose: CAI can provide a real situation for the Ss to understand the text.
Step 4: Practise.
1. Play the tape. (Listen and say)
The students read it.
2. Game: guessing game
Show f/c quickly.(all pictures in the box)
Ask students: What did you see?
The students answer it :I saw a ________. (PPT)
What did you eat? I ate ________.
What did you buy? I bought ________.
3. Practice. Use CAI.
Work in 4 students and check.
Purpose:
Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of cooperation will be well trained.
Step 5: Homework:
1. Listen and read the text. 2. Write the words 5 English 1Chinese.

6. Feedback:
This class let students study and find the difficult points of the text by themselves. Cooperation can help them with the ways of solving questions. The difficult point is irregular verbs, let students write it together. So remember it in the class by games can raise their motivation.
