3A Unit 8 Happy New Year!

Period 1 Teaching Plan

一、The analysis of the teaching material Firstly, let’s focus on the analysis of the teaching material. The material comes from Period 1, Unit 8, Book Grade 3 Volume 1. The topic of this unit is about the new year, which is related to the students’ real life. By learning this lesson, the students will learn to give their best wishes to others in the new year, give presents and express their gratitude with the target language.

二、The analysis of the students The pupils in Grade 3 are active and curious so my lesson should be full of fun to raise their interest in English. The main instructional aim of teaching English in a primary school is to cultivate students’ abilities of their listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language.

三、Teaching aims According to the English Curriculum Standard, the teaching material and the students, I set the following teaching aims. （一）Knowledge aims The students can understand, read, say and use the key words: a doll, a ball, a CD, a car, a robot and the sentence patterns: What’s this/that? It’s a/an … This is for you. It’s for you. Thank you.

（二）Ability aims The students can use the language learned today to give their best wishes to others in the new year, give presents and express their gratitude and improve their abilities of listening and speaking.

（三）Emotional aims The students will know about the differences of the New Year culture between the East and the West, cultivate the spirit of co-operation, proper competition, independence and exploration and take more interest in English communication.

六、Teaching aids A multi-media computer, a teaching CD, PPT, headwears, pictures, sweets, magnets, a ball, a doll, a car, a CD and a robot.

and answer the question:

[The purposes of my design of this step: It’s important to form a better English learning surrounding for the students and lead into the topic of

this lesson naturally for the next step.] Step 2 Presentation 1.

T: People usually give or receive presents in the new year. Today I also take my presents I have got. Guess! What are they in the bag? If you’re right, you can get a sweet. (PPT presents the sentences: What’s this/that? It’s a/an… This is for you. It’s for you.) T teaches the new words: a doll, a ball and a robot initially. 2.

T: Do you know the difference between this and that? Ss look at the cartoon and sentences in the PPT and summarize. T presents the tip to explain.

[The purposes of my design of this step: The guessing game can help the students to understand and remember the key words and sentences about the new year more interestingly.]

Step 3 Story time 1. T: Listen! (the doorbell rings) Someone visits Mike’s home and gives presents. Who is he? (Uncle John). 2. Watch the cartoon and answer the question: What presents does Uncle John give? (Teach the new words: a doll, a ball and a robot again) 3. T: Whom does Uncle John give the presents respectively? Now please read the story yourself and underline the answers. Pictures can also help you. Please answer with This … is for …

4. Read the story after the tape and imitate the characters’ pronunciation and intonation. 5. Group work: Act out the story. [The purposes of my design of this step: The questions and tasks can help the students understand the story better. Their ability of English spoken is also improved. Acting out the story is an interesting way to let the students show themselves and cultivate their spirit of co-operation.]

Step 4 Consolidation 1.

When someone gives you presents, you can say: 2. Pair work: use the words and sentences we learned today to give presents to your deskmate. [The purposes of my design of this step: The students will learn how to use what they learned in the different situations. The pair work can help the students to consolidate the new knowledge and at the same time improve their ability of English speaking. After all, the students are the center of the class and teachers are just organizers and guides.]

Step 5 Culture time 1.

Appreciate the pictures about how people around the world celebrate the new year in different ways. 2.

Know about different present cultures around the world. [The purposes of my design of this step: The students can know more about the knowledge about different New Year cultures and present cultures around the world. They will also be more interested in the topic of this unit.] Step 6 Summary

1. T: The new year is coming. What present do you want to prepare for your parents? Why?

2. T: So we should know to give is happier than to take forever and that be grateful to others and give our best wishes to them!

[The purposes of my design of this step: The students can conclude and remember what they learned today and realize that they should love and thank their parents.] Step 7 Homework 1.Listen and read Story time 3 times and try to recite it. 2. Start to prepare New Year presents for your family and friends. [The purposes of my design of this step: Homework is necessary to help the students practise and consolidate the new knowledge about the new year.]
