V.

Teaching aids Multi-media, envelopes, cards VI.

Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in (5’) T elicits the lesson by asking questions. Activity1: T asks Ss about their feelings today. (3’)

T: Good morning! How are you feeling today? S: I feel happy. T: Why? S: Because we are having an English class.

T: So having an English class will make you happy?

... T: I am happy, too. I am wearing a light yellow coat. That makes me feel even happier. So as we can see, so many things can affect our feelings. These things can not only make us happy but also make us feel unhappy.

Activity2: T presents some affairs that may affect one’s feeling and asks Ss to talk about other things that can affect their feelings. (2’) T: What can affect your feelings in your daily life? Ss: Weather/ Environment/ news/ exams can affect our feelings.

Step 2 Pre-reading (8’) Activity1: T encourage Ss to write down one thing that once made them unhappy and put it into the envelope.

T: Do you remember when you felt really unhappy and what caused it? Please discuss with each other and write it down on the paper. (Ss discuss and write) T:If you have finished, please put your paper into the envelope.

Step 3 While- reading (12’) Activity1: Read and catch the main idea. (1’) (T presents the beginning part of the passage. ) T: This is the beginning part of a short passage. Read this part quickly. (Ss read) T: Now can you tell me what this passage will talk about next?

Ss: It will tell us how to control our feelings. Activity2: Read and complete the sentences.(3’) (Ss read by themselves and fill in the blanks with correct words.) T:

Activity3: Put the sentences into right order.(2’) T: You have done a great jib. But these sentences are not in the right order. Could you help me order them? Activity4: Find out the key words and classify them into two categories.(6’) T: Since so many things can affect our feelings, it’s hard for us to keep ourselves in a good mood. So I prepared a little gift for you, it can help you control your feelings. Each group can find an envelope under desk. Now open it and see what it is. (Ss open the envelope.) T: What did you find in this envelope? Ss: Some cards. T: Yes. The secret of how to keep happy is right on these cards. Each of you can pick one and share it with your group members.

(Ss discuss.) T: Do you know all the ways that can help you? Ss: Yes! T: And now I want to find out the key words of each one and tell me. (T checks Ss answer after discussion.) Step 4 Post- reading (14’) Activity1: T encourages Ss to list other ways to keep happy.(3’) T: This passage tells us some good method to keep us in a good mood. But we have many other methods. For example, we can do some sports we like.

(T presents some pictures to inspire Ss to say other ways) T: Do you have other ways that can make you feel better when you are unhappy? Can you list some? Ss: We can go shopping/ play computer games/... Activity2: T inspires Ss to think about if these ways are all good ways.(4’) T: You have made so many suggestions, but are these all good suggestions?

Ss: Maybe not. Playing computer games is not a good idea. T: Why not? S1: If we play computer games too much, our study will get bad.

S2: And it is not good for our eyes. T: I agree with you. So if we truly want to help others, we need to make proper suggestions. Do you think so? Ss: Yes! Activity3: Ss exchange their envelope to see each others’

problems and make appropriate suggestions.(5’) T: I think you can be a good helper now. You can help others solve their problems, right? Ss: Yes. T: You can help the people around you, such as your classmates. Now exchange your envelope with each other and see if you can make proper suggestions for them. (Ss work in groups.) Activity4: Enjoy a poem. (2’) T: You have done a really good job. And I think you are really good at helping others. After sharing your feelings with others, you must feel better now. Because sharing makes a better life.

(Ss read a poem together.) Step 5 Assignment (1’)

Activity1: T summarize this lessen briefly and assign homework.

T: If you share your sadness with others, your sadness halves; If you share your happiness with others, happiness doubles. So whenever you feel bad, share your feelings with people around you. They will help you and you will feel much better. Share your happiness with people around, they will also feel happy. Hope you can enjoy your life.

T: After class, send your letter to your classmates and ask each other if they feel better now.
