1.Guiding ideology and theoretical basis "English curriculum standards" clearly pointed out that one of the tasks of English Teaching in basic education stage is to stimulate and cultivate students' interest in learning English, to enable students to establish self-confidence, form good learning habits and effective learning methods, develop independent learning ability and cooperation spirit, to enable students to master certain language proficiency. The teaching approach advocates experience, practice, participation, cooperation and exchange of learning style and task oriented, cultivating students' intercultural communicative awareness.

2.Analysis of the teaching background 1. Analysis of the textbook This teaching material pays more attention to children’ interests, experience. Many topics in it are related to our daily life. That is helpful for children to learn English. The topic of this unit is Ling Ming Comes Home . It talks about what happened when Li Ming Will go home from abroad.

This unit contains 5 lessons and a story. The title of Lesson 20 is Looking at Photos. This lesson involves verds past tense and how to talk about photos.

This lesson talk about when Li Ming will go home from the abroad , he found some photos, and he talk about what happened in the photos for Jenny.

2. Analysis of the students The students of grade 6 have the basic ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing to learn this lesson. It has many old words that are familiar for them. As this lesson is closely related to our daily life, we should let them learn this lesson by themselves as more as possible to improve their self-study capacity. They can practice their listening, speaking, reading and writing by variety of activities I designed for them.
