1. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to ask “Yes or No” questions using “Are you …?” and answer using “Yes, I am/ No, I’m not.”

2. Students will be able to introduce themselves using “ Hello, I’m …”

Homework：

1. Listen, read and act (P12-13).

2. Make sentences using: Are you …? Yes, I am/ No, I’m not.

Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warming up 1. T sings the song “Hello”

and talk new friends with students (Su Hai, Wang Bing, Mike, etc). 2. T introduces herself using “Hello, I’m …”

and ask students to introduce themselves using the same pattern. Notes Step 2: Presentation 1. T talks with students about their Chinese names and asks some students “Are you …?”

and guides them to answer using “Yes, I am.”

2. Students work in pairs to ask and answer “Are you …? Yes, I am.”

During this step, students are familiar with their Chinese names, so they can give the affirmative answers. 3. T introduces her English name, and show students’

English names (cards). Students will be guided to know, say and remember their English names. T talks with students about their English names and asks some students “Are you …?”

In response to this question, T guides students to answer using “Yes, I am.” And “No, I’m not.”

4. Students work in pairs to ask and answer. 5. T talks with students about some friends in the book: “It’s a new term. Students are not familiar with others. Now, let’s watch the story and see what happens in the classroom. 6. Students watch the video and answer the question below:

Picture 1: Who are they?

Where are they?

How do they greet each other? Picture 2: Is that girl Su Hai?

Does Mike know Su Hai? Who comes into the classroom?

Picture 3＆4 : Who are they?

How do they greet each other?

7. T summarizes how to ask people who he/she is (Are you …?)

and two ways to answer such questions (Yes, I am. / No, I’m not. ) Step 3: Practice and production

1. Listen, read and act:

Students listen to the tape and repeat the text .Then try to act it out. 2. T guides students to describe story time with the help of pictures.

Read and write: There are ______ girls in the classroom. One is _____, the other is Su Hai. ______ comes into the classroom .He says ______ to Yang Ling and Yang Ling says Hello to him, too. Mike doesn’t know________ and he asks: ___________? Su Hai answers ____________. At that time, a boy comes into the classroom. He says ______________ to Mike. Mike says ________ to him and asks:____________________? The boy says: ______, I’m not. I’m ______.

3: Fun time: T invites students to come to the front and invite student 2 to say a sentence and then let student1 guess who student 2 is (“Are you …? Yes, I am. /No, I’m not.)
