Unit 2 How do you come to school?

The first period

Teaching aims:

1. Ss can know and understand the words about public transport: bike, bus, plane, ship, taxi, train, metro

2. Enable Ss to master the sentence patterns:

Where do/does ...live? ...live/lives ...

How do/ does …come to school? ...come/comes to school by/on...

3. Help Ss understand and read Story time.

4. Enable Ss to talk about the place they live in and the ways they come to school. Teaching emphasis and difficulties:

1. Help Ss master the words about public transport.

2. Encourage Ss to talk about the place they live in and the ways they come to school. Teaching methods: situational teaching method

Teaching aids: PPT and cards.

Teaching procedure:

Step1: Lead in.

T: Welcome back to school, boys and girls. Are you happy now?

Ss: Yes./ No.

T: Why are you so happy?

S: Because I can play with my good friend./ Because I can see you-Miss Guan./... T: Why are you so sad?

S: Because I can’t watch TV./ Because I have to do homework again./...

T: Sorry to hear that. I hope you can be happier.

Step2: Play a game.

T: Let’s play a game now, OK?

Ss: OK.

(Ss are asked to listen to the sound and guess what public transport it is.)

T: Listen and guess: it’s a car or a bus?

S: A car.

T: Right. And it’s a special car-taxi.

(Do it several times and teach the words: taxi, bus, plane, ship, train, metro, bike) Step3: Practice the word by cards.

The teacher hides some parts of the cards and let Ss guess the name.

Step4: Talk about the ways to school.

T: Now, look at the map. This is my home. It’s near our school. So I come to school by electric--bike. How do you come to school?

S1: I come to school by bus.

S2: I come to school by car.

S3: I come to school by electric-bike, too.

S4: I come to school on foot.

Step5: Talk about the places we live in.

T: We come to school by different ways because we live in different places. I live on Gulou Road, near Gulou Street. Look at this map again. Read after me: road/street/ near.

Ss: Road/street/ near.

T: Good. Where do you live?

S: I live in Guoqing’ercun.

T: So, it’s near our school.

S: Yes.

T: Where do you live?

S: I live in ...

Step6: Learn the story.

a. Show the picture of Story time.

T: Who are they in the picture?

S: Su Hai, Yang Ling, Mike, Liu Tao.

T: Where do they live? Let’s watch the video.

b. Watch and answer: Where does Su Hai/Mike/Yang Ling/ Liu Tao live?

c. Match and say: How do they come to school?

d. Talk about story time

A: Where does …live?

B: He/ She lives in …It’s near/ far from …

A: How does …come to school?

B: He/ She comes to school by/ on …

A: Oh, I see.

e. Read after computer

f. Read together

g. Read in roles

Step7: Retell the story
