Lesson O Can You Fly

The First Period

Part 1 The analysis of teaching materials

ⅠTeaching contents

This lesson is taken from lesson O of English This Way Book 2. It's the first period for sentences teaching.

ⅡTeaching aims

1. Knowledge aims:

a. To enable the pupils to express whether they are able to do something by learning the below sentence patterns:

--- Can you…?

--- Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

2.Ability aims:

a. To improve the pupils' abilities of listening, speaking and reading

b. To enable the pupils to use the target language to communicate with others in their daily life.

3.Moral aims:

a.To inspire the pupils’ interest in learning English.

b.Through group works and games, cultivating the pupils'

consciousness of cooperation.

ⅢTeaching important points:

Sentence patterns 1:--- Can you…?

--- Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

ⅣTeaching difficulties:

1.How to keep the pupils concentrate on the whole procedures and active their learning interests.

2.To enable they can make use of the target language.

Part 2 The analysis of pupils

For English, the pupils of Grade 3 are just at the primary perceptual level. However they are good at imitating and are curious about new things. According to the actual situations of my students, the creation of situational method and communicative method will be applied.

There are 5 steps in this part.

Step1 Greetings and Warm-up

1.Greetings, say “Good morning” to the whole class.

2.Chant a little poem together--- .

T: Class, how are you?

Ps: ...

T: Good, before our class, let’s chant together, OK?

Ps:…

T: OK, Everyone, when you chant, do the same actions as Miss Zou does. (Purpose: To warm the learning atmosphere and stimulate pupils' learning interest. At the same time, to recall the sentence patterns we learnt in the first period and lead in new sentence patterns.)

Step2 Ask and answer

T: Look at here, do you know it?

Ps:…

(Actions: fly, act, climb, drive, cook)

T: Bird, Bird can fly. Bird, Bird, can you fly?

Ps: Yes, I can.

T: Good. Boy, boy,Can you fly?

S1: No, I can’t.

(Purpose: Review the words and sentence patterns we learnt in the first period and lead in the new sentence patterns)

The same to teach (climb,cook,drive, act)

Step3 Sentence patterns

1.Sentence consolidation

Show the pictures and ask students “Can you...?”

Work in pairs practise it.

Step4 Sum up and Homework (3 minute)

1. Summarize the key points of this lesson with the pupils.

2. Practice the new sentences with you partner after class. (Purpose: Review and summary what we learnt today and help the pupils to consolidate the sentences and use the target language in their daily life.)
