A Teaching Design Ⅱ. Analysis of teaching materials:

In this period, it is mainly about my imaginary school, which can be regarded as the expansion of the unit. Its writing skills focus on linking words and expressions, which can help students form a good habit of writing and concentrate on detailed information. What’s more, teaching strategies combining writing and reading is adopted in this lesson. Meanwhile, this lesson is meaningful for them to learn how to write an essay.

Ⅲ. Analysis of students: Senior two students have already had a certain ability of gaining information. So it’s not difficult for them to write the passage. However, students may have problems using linking words and subjective mood properly in their essays.

Ⅳ. Teaching aims and demands: 1. Knowledge objectives: 1)

To have a clear of the layout of My Perfect School after reading this sample essay. 2)

To use proper linking words to make their essay coherent and logical. 3)

To work together to write an essay about their perfect school.

2. Ability objectives: 1)

To improve students’ reading and writing skills through analyzing the sample writing and creating their own ones. 2)

To improve students’ team spirit by completing a certain task altogether.

3. Moral objectives: 1)

To realize the importance of cooperation and in this way their teamwork spirit will be strengthened.

To promote their imagination and creativity which will benefit them a lot in their life-long learning. 3)

To learn to appreciate others’ ideas and suggestions.

1. To guide them to get familiar with the structure of the article and learn to write this essay.

2. To encourage them to use linking words properly.

Ⅸ. Teaching procedures: Step 1: Reading (14 mins)

1. Pre-reading

First, show students a video and some photos about our school No.2 Middle School. Ask them to brainstorm some suitable adjectives as much as possible to describe their ideal school.

2. While-reading

Get the students to read the passage on page 45, and find out the linking words and expressions in this essay. 3. Post-reading

Ask students whether they want to write this writing about perfect school. Summarize how to write this essay after reading sample writing.

Step 2: Writing (30 mins) 1.

Pre-writing

Ask students to make an outline and have a discussion in groups. Have students accumulate some words and sentences pattern in preparation for writing.

While-writing

Stress the key points in this writing class. Have them pay attention to the use of linking

works and subjective mood.

3.

Post-writing

Ask students to work in groups. Share and evaluate their rough drafts with each other. Check their writing among the class by inviting some group members to write their composition on the blackboard. Then ask several students to makes comments. Summarize what they have learned in this period and decide the best group and members.

Step 3: Homework assignment

Ask the students to polish and revise their writing. Then hand in the final draft after class.
