Teaching procedure Steps Pre-reading

Step 1

Show the students some pictures of different jobs and lead in the topic.

Then ask Ss: to be a teacher, what qualities does a teacher need’

After that, show Ss two classrooms and lead them to find the skills that a teacher needs.

Help Ss understand one principle: survival of the fittest.

To arouse Ss’

interest,

lead in the topic and get them to prepare for the reading step.

While-reading

Step 2 Skimming Ss read the text and get the main idea of the text. Then ask Ss to skim each paragraph with a sentence gap again and identify the topic of paragraphs. Match each paragraph with its topic.

Reading strategies

After reading the text, the students have noticed that there are some gaps in the text. So teacher should help them to finish gap filling. Read the reading strategies with Ss to make them know how to do it. Then lead the students to find the correct sentence for each gap one step by one step.

Scanning Ss scan the text and find some detailed information of the changes between the past and future and fill the two tables.

To practice Ss’

reading

skills and get the general idea and the topic of each paragraph so that they can prepare for the next step.
