A Land of Troy is the district located in the northwest of Asia Minor(小亚细亚) into the Aegean Sea.

The Trojan War fought between the Greeks and Troy developed in the following manner. King Priam（普里阿摩斯，特洛伊末代王） of Troy was wealthy and powerful; But his son Paris was invited to judge which of the goddesses, Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena deserved to receive the golden apple marked by the goddess Eris (Discord不调和\纷争) “for the most beautiful.” Aphrodite promised Paris the most beautiful woman in the world: he therefore awarded her the apple and went to Greece, where he won the love of，and eloped（私奔）

with, Helen, wife of Menelaus(墨涅拉奥斯), the king of Sparta.

To recover Helen, the Greeks launched a great expedition（远征）

under the command of Menelaus’s brother, Agamemnon

and Odysseus(奥德赛). The Trojans refused to return Helen. Troy, assisted by allies(盟友) from Asia Minor（小亚细亚）, resisted a Greek siege(围攻) for 10 years. The gods, Hera, Athena, and Poseidon

took sides

for the Greeks, and Aphrodite , Apollo, and Ares for the Trojans. The Iliad(伊利亚特) is set in the 10th year of the war.

Finally, with Athene’s help, Agamemnon(阿伽门侬), Odysseus（奥德赛）and their Greek men built a huge wooden horse. Greek warriors hid inside it; the rest of the Greek army sailed away to Tenedos（特内多斯，爱琴海上土耳其岛屿）, a nearby island, pretending to abandon the siege. Despite the warnings of Priam’s daughter Cassandra（卡桑德拉）, the Trojans were persuaded to take the horse inside the walls of Troy as an offering to Athena; At night the Greek army returned, and the Greeks from the horse opened the gates of Troy. Priam and his remaining sons were killed; the Trojan women passed into slavery in various cities of Greece. The Greek leaders were in triumph. Their adventurous homeward voyage is told in Homer’s

Odyssey.

Odysseus was the leader on their ten year journey home to Ithaca. He was a legendary Greek king of Ithaca, husband of Penelope and father of Telemachus.

He is most famous for his “homecoming”, which took him ten eventful years after the decade-long Trojan War. Odysseus and his men were blown far off course to lands unknown to the Greeks; there Odysseus had many adventures, including the famous encounter(遭遇) with the Cyclops , Siren and Circe. Odysseus' ships were destroyed, and all his men died. Odysseus had not eaten the cattle, and was allowed to live; he washed ashore on the island of Ogygia. A team of shadow play consists of story tellers and several puppet players. Puppets are the figures painted as the characters in the play. Shadow play is a folk drama, in which players hold puppets behind a screen. Their shadows will be cast on the screen through the light. The performance is accompanied by story tellers. While playing, remember to hold puppets closely to the screen to make their shadows clearly cast for the audience. The performance should keep pace with storytelling naturally. It can be like a movie, if you can use the special techniques, such as fade in, fade out and wonderful movement for the characters. Shadow play is a very easy way for you to give a vivid and lively performance on a little stage. Wish you a great job!
