Unit13 Lesson1 EQ : IQ 教学目标

在本课学习结束时，学生能够：

1. 获取有关“智商”

和“情商”的信息；

2. 运用构词法学习词汇；

3. 分析复杂句子的结构并理解其意思；

4. 组织课文信息，介绍“智商”和“情商”的研究结果。

教学步骤

Step 1 Pre-reading：(The quiz) Activity1: T reads the situations in Ex. 1 (Page 8) to Ss and explains the words when necessary (aircraft, gifted, get into an argument). Ss do the quiz by themselves and don’t have to let others know their answers. Then, Ss find out their own score on Page 91.

Activity2: T and Ss discuss what the quiz is testing and what each choice stands for and introduce the idea of EQ and IQ. T invites Ss to say what they know about EQ. and IQ and which is more important? Why?

Step 2 While-reading: Activity1:1st reading

Ss read Passage 1 and Passage 2 quickly to find out the main idea of each passage. Activiyt2:2nd reading

Ss read the passages again and fill in the blanks with the information. Activity3 3rd reading

Ss read the passages carefully and answer the questions.( Ex. 2) 1 What does the recent research say about a person’s success and his or her IQ?

2 How does professor Salovey describe EQ and IQ? 3 Why do some smart students end up failing exams according to Prof. Salovey? 4 Can a person’s EQ be improved? What about his IQ? Can you give some examples? 5What’s the meaning of “people skills”? Is it important to improve them if you want to be successful in life? Why/ Why not?

Step 3 Post-reading: After reading, Ss read the questions and choose the best answers. 1．Which of the following is true? A．Success is the result of a high IQ.

T and Ss analyze the structures of some complex sentences and understand the meanings. Ss correct the mistake of each sentence.
