Part 1 To analyze the book I.

There are 14 lessons in Book 7. This is Lesson F. It is a lesson about talking about persons. The central item is to learn how to use the words and sentences to talk about others. II.

The students are in Grade 4. They have learnt some adjectives. They can use the words to talk about the characteristics of things. In this lesson, I’ll make the Ss familiar with these words and use the words to talk about the characteristics of persons. So I make the teaching aims of this lesson as follows.

a. The first is the aims on the knowledge (1) To enable the Ss to understand and say the new words: handsome, pretty, friendly and Chinese. Make sure that Ss can use these words to talk about the characteristics of others. (2) To help Ss to talk about Ting Ting’s new teacher. (3) Let Ss play the words games and fill in the blanks. b. The second is the aims on the abilities (1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, writing and working in pairs and groups. (2) To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation. c. The third is the aims on the emotion (1)To foster Ss’ consciousness of good co-operation and proper competition. (2) To lead Ss talk about each others. III. Key-points of this lesson (1) To help Ss say the words of feelings, ask and answer, e.g. “What’s he like? He is tall. What’s she like? She is pretty.”

(2) To enable Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully. (3) To help the Ss learn the text and talk about Ting Ting’s new teacher. IV. Difficult points (1) To help the Ss say the words clearly and make sure they can use the words to talk about others. (2) To help the Ss talk about the teacher in their own words. (3) To finish the report by themselves, and then show us in front of the blackboard. Part 2 Teaching methods and preparations In this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations. I will arrange some kinds of activities: seeing cartoon characters and some persons to review the old words and learn the new words, acting the words out, Crossword with Pictures, finding the right man, and having a competition. And in this lesson CAI, White Board, word cards, sentence cards, some pictures and a printed form will be needed.

Part 3. Teaching procedures and purposes of my design. I’ll finish this lesson in seven steps. Step 1 Warm-up ( this procedure needs 3 minutes) 1. Sing a song, “Hello Song”

2. Free talk between T and Ss about their names, hobbies, etc. 3. Divide the whole class into two teams to have a competition. Purpose: It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the students. Step 2 Preview and presentation( this procedure needs 10 minutes) ( this procedure needs 8 minutes)

(1) Show some cartoon characters in CAI and review the old words and introduce the new words. Say the words and do some actions.

old---young friendly---unfriendly beautiful/pretty/handsome---ugly tall---short fat---thin Then I say and they do the actions. I do the actions and they say. (2) Play a game. “What’s That Word”

Let two students come to the front of the classroom. T says one word and let the students speak out the opposite word. A: Tall. What’s that word? B: Short. A: Fat. What’s that word? B: Thin. Let two students in each group come to the front of the classroom. T asks and the two students answer. Find out who is the quickest one. Divide two students in a group. They ask and answer to find the opposite words. Find out who is the quickest one. (3) Crossword with Pictures Show some pictures to help the Ss. Purpose: Lead the Ss use the words correctly. To enable the Ss’ ability of speaking Step 3 Deal with the sentences ( this procedure needs 5 minutes) Show two characters in CAI. A is tall, thin and young. B is tall, thin, but old. Ss ask: What’s he like? T: He is tall. Ss: What’s he like? T: He is thin.

Ss: What’s he like? T: He is young. Ss: He is No.A. We will play this guessing game 3 times. We can practice the main sentences with playing games. Divide two students in a group. They ask and answer in groups. First, I’ll ask one of the groups to give the Ss an example. Then Ss will practice in pairs. After that, I’ll ask two groups in each team to ask and answer in front of the Bb. Purpose: Lead the Ss use the sentences correctly. To enable the Ss’ ability of talking with others. Step 4. Deal with the text( this procedure needs 8 minutes) 1. Present the text. T: Ting Ting has a new teacher. She and her mum are talking about the teacher now. Let’s see, “What’s he like?”

Listen to the text and find: “What’s he like?” Listen once, Ss answer the questions. Listen again, Ss read after the tape sentence by sentence. Find the right parts of the teacher. Purpose: CAI can provide a real situation for the Ss to understand the text and the meaning of the words and sentences. Step 4 Extension ( this procedure needs 5 minutes) T: I have a friend. Her name is Mary. She is beautiful. She is tall. She is friendly. Do you have a friend in our class? Ss: Yes. T: Can you talk about your friend now? S1: I have a friend. Her name is Rose. She is pretty. She is friendly. She is thin. S2: …

S3: …

Purpose: Let the Ss say more about their friends. Practice speaking. Step 5

Finish a report ( this procedure needs 8 minutes)Ss will finish the report by themselves. Some of the students come to the front of the Bb. And introduce their dad and mum. aPurpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss’ abilities of writing and speaking.

Step 7. Homework( this procedure needs 1 minutes) 1. Let Ss talk about each other after class. Tell their parents, “What’s your friend like?”

2. Listen to the tape and read Lesson F. Purpose:

Revision is so important that Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned.
