一、教材分析

本课时所教的是外研版高二上学期使用的选修六Module2 Fantasy Literature 中Reading部分的内容，是本模块的第二课时。

Reading and Vocabulary是一篇题为The Cat That Vanished的fantasy story。故事选自于Philip Pullman’s second book named The Subtle Knife in the His Dark Material trilogy。通过阅读此短文，学生可进一步理解fantasy story的含义。

课文设置了五个活动。前个活动考查学生对短文的理解程度；第五个活动考查学生语言输出能力

三、教学目标

题材内容和学习目的：本模块的主题是幻想小说。本课时是介绍和阅读课文节选自著名幻想小说His Dark Materials。要求学生掌握阅读文学作品的阅读技巧和叙述故事的技能，并提高对幻想小说和电影的鉴赏力。

语言知识目标：

To help the students to understand and appreciate the vivid description in Fantasy literrature.. 语言技能目标：

To help the students to learn and use reading skills of literature. 情感目标：通过阅读幻想小说和观看幻想电影提高素养，愉悦自我。

文化意识方面：了解英美国家较流行的幻想小说和电影系列，初步学会欣赏幻想小说，拓宽知识面，提高文学素养. 四、教学重点及难点

如何处理小说节选部分和全文的关系，并且帮助学生获得较为完整的意思理解。

五、教学过程

1. Warming-up

Pre-task：

1.Get to know the characters of Fantasy Literature by enjoying some pictures from Harry Porter. 2. Give a brief introduction about Philip Pullman and His Dark Materials by showing the picture of the Trilogy of His Dark Materials and the film of Golen Compass.. 2．Predict Lead students to predict the writing style and basic elements by using the information in the title.

3．Skim the text Task 1: let students find how many paragraphs in the text? Then, Read the first sentence and number each paragraph. Then get the main structure of the text. 4. Scan the text Ask students to read Part1 in 3 Minutes Task 2: Work in pairs to finish the following chart to find what happened to Will and the cat. Will----he Trying to clear his head Held out his hand Still watching Watched more alertly Cat----she

Ask students to read Part3 in 5 minutes. Task3: Read the passage and finish Activity 1, page 16. Task 4: Finish the exercise in the Activity 4, page 17. 5．Give a very brief summary of the Reading part. By filling the blanks, make atudents get the main idea of text. 6. Discussion—retell the story Show a pattern about how to retell a story and give students an example on how to use the pattern by descrbing Harry Porter. 7．Homework. Write a passage about your favourite book.
