Lesson 15 Sending the postcards
It is made up of four parts. Part 1 My understanding of this lesson. The analysis of the teaching material:
For the teaching text: in this unit, my students learned some words and expressions about writing letters、postcards and e-mails. And lesson 15 is the extension and development. It can improve the students’ Enghlish skills by the real life problems encountered in the process of sending postcards. I will analysis the teaching parts. First, learn to ask the ways. E.g. “Excuse me, where is the post office?” they also need to know how to lead the way by using the words: Go straight, turn left, at the traffic lights. The key words is ——turn . second, they should learn to buy something in English. The key sentence is : How much are they?—they are ……yuan. I’ll take them. The key word is——wrong. Third., connect first part and second part.
Analysis of teaching objects: For the students in Grade 5, they have learned English for more than 2 years. They have some basic knowledge, and they have kept some good habit of listening、speaking、reading and writing. Although they are in Grade 5, they are still young kids. And they are active and they have strong thirsty for knowledge, I would like to ask them to work in groups. To improve their learning interest, I send some games for them to act. Before this lessson, they have mastered some skills about buying postcards and wring postcards, and they can write a postcard by themselves. This lesson is development of the learning knowledge.
Analysis of teaching environment: with the development of multimedia, students in Grade 5 are interested in visually show and exact things. So I try my best to set a real environment, simulate a post office and prepare some properties.(道具),for example : stamps, postcards and so on. The students will experience what will happen at the post office.
Part 2 Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge aim: master the words and phrases: trun、wrong, go straight, turn left at the traffic lights. They can know and understand the sentences: How much are they?
They are 。。。。。。yuan. I’ll take them.
2. Ability aim: Follow and describe the directions according to the words;
Learn to ask the ways and buy some things.
Communicate with students and teachers with the sentences in lesson 15, then improve their English abilities and thinking skills. 3. Emotional aim:
Give them a chance to know how the foreign students keep in touch learn about the culture differences between China and western.
Part 3 Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points:
Key Points: Master the dirction words and use some sentences to ask the ways and buy something.
Difficulties: practice the dialogue in English and use them in their daily life.
Part 4 Teaching Process:
1. Review: lead-in sing a song 《How to write a post card》。The purpose is to attact ss’attention.
Play games: Simon says: turn left, turn right, go straight. The purpose is to be active and review the old knowledge.
Review the last lesson, disorder the order of the empty postcard, address, text and stamp. Then ask students to find their correct dirction and encourage them to answer. Give some marks to the good groups.
Design idea: for this link, the beginning with English songs enables the students to quickly enter the status of English learning. The small game of Simon says can break the ice and review and strengthen the former knowledge. At the same time, with the way of group competition, new knowledge is presented and reviewed, making the learning of the students be
more challenging.
(二)Present
1、Where is the post office?
After the end of the reviewing stage, the class enters the stage of a new lesson. Firstly, I will ask a question: We help Jenny finish the postcard, where does she want to go? With the form of a picture, the post office is presented, leading to the answer of the students as She wants to go to the post office. At this point, ask them to know the differences between the two “o”.es.
Then with the form of ppt, the map is presented, and I continue to ask the students Where is the post office?
I ask the students to watch the video and listen to the recording, and let them find the answer by themselves. Then they repeat the answer together, letting the students turn from passive reception to active thinking.
Next, I will use the small game created by myself ——hiding and finding to strengthen what they have learned. I will ask them Where is the post office? Then I will take out a picture with the drawing of a post office. I will hide it in one student’s desk, and find two students. One students give ordes and another student look for the map.I will ask several groups of students to practice it so as to speed up their process of mastering and applying the knowledge. (presentation in the form of video) Design idea: in this link, through the courseware of the design of a post office, the learning contents of this class have been introduced to the children directly. With the use of multimedia, the pictures and pronunciations are displayed, giving intuitional perception to students. Then I will ask the students to listen to the recording for further perception. Finally, with the influence of the small game, the students become the active learners so as to achieve the purpose of applying English for exchanges and communications.
2. Teaching part2 At the post office
Firstly I will ask the children to get familiar with the contents of the lesson. I will use the sentence of Look, they are at the post office, what happened at
the post office? to introduce the following contents. Then I will play the video and recording and ask the children to watch the video with recording with the question. At this point, my ppt will present the question, for the first time, the video is played, and I will ask the children to watch the video with the question ——Who wants to buy the postcards?
For the second time, I will ask the students to read the text aloud with the question ——How much is one stamp? How many stamps does Jenny need? How much are they? and introduce the students to find the answers. The questions are from easy to difficult, and the key sentence patterns of this lesson are introduced ——How much are they? They are yuan. I will take them.
Next I will compare the two groups of the postcards with the form of ppt. One is the normal one, the other one includes 9 postcards written by Danny. I then ask them What is Danny doing? Is he right? The postcards of Danny are obviously wrong, and I introduce the students to answer wrong, and introduce the new word.
Design idea: in this link, the advantages of multimedia in English teaching is given full play, making the boring teaching become intuitive and interesting. Besides, with the method of comparison, the students quickly understand the new word that I teach them — wrong.
3、Role play
1.With ppt, some key words in today’s learning contents are presented, guiding the students to autonomously recall what they have learned today on the knowledge of asking the way and prices.
2. Role play For the role play, through the props that I prepared before, such as stamps and postcards, the situation of a post office is created, then I guide the students to perform autonomously. There are altogether three roles, i.e. the attendant, Danny and Jenny. I will ask the students to enter the roles and perform autonomously. In the specific situation, they apply the expression methods for asking the way and doing shopping so that they can apply English
in practice.
Design idea: for this link, the students may have many ideas. I will strengthen what they have learned and ask them to come to the front to utilize the display area for achievement display and dialogue performance so that I can create a real situation for the students to practice and strengthen the new sentence patterns and let the students learn to use English in true environment.
(三)Consolidation
With the form of ppt, the content of look and write on page 43 of the textbook are presented. I will give the students certain time to complete it, then I will show the answer. Due to their learning before, it should not be so hard for them to complete the practice. Through giving correct answers, the students can not only strengthen the knowledge, but also gain the sense of achievements.
(四)Development
Put some different things on the map, then ask students to ask the way and buy things.
At last, Homework
Please make a dialogue about asking the way to Nanhu Park and buy the tickets at Nanhu Park. I hope students can use English in their normal life by doing this homework.
