Step I Revision T: Have you finished your homework? Ss: Yes.

Ask some Ss to present their paragraphs about their own personal memories to the whole class. A sample paragraph:

I will never forget the days when I learned to ride a bicycle. That year I began to go to middle school, but the school I went to was very far away from my home, so I had to learn to ride a bicycle so that I could go there by bicycle. After Father told me the steps of riding a bicycle, I began to practice on the playground of a school nearby. I had thought riding a bicycle was easy, but in fact when I began, I found it was so

difficult. I couldn-t control the bicycle and I even couldn-t ride on it. With the help of my father and after several days- practice, I eventually could control the bicycle well. I have got a lesson

S: I think they didn-t reach the beach as a matter of fact. S: The sentence describes something that didn-t really happen in the past.

T: Were they killed? Ss: No. They weren-t killed for they didn-t reach the beach. The sentence is only telling us a situation supposed. T: Good. You are clever. Step III Explanation and Practice T: In the fifth lesson, we have learnt something about the subjunctive. Today we are going to continue to learn about it. As we know, the subjunctive is used to express states or actions contrary to fact, whose truth or possible implications you would like to consider.
