Ⅵ:Module 1 Small Talk教学设计

一、教材地位: 所授Reading and Vocabulary 部分是Small Talk的第二课时,在第一课时简单的了解了基本的Small Talk 的含义的基础上,让同学们进一步的,更深层次的了解不同文化下的Small Talk.通过本课时的教学使学生对各种不同的聊天话题、注意事项、各项规则等加以了解并能学会用一些交流技巧于他人进行交流。目的是帮助学生认识不同文化背景中谈话时的交际规则和交谈的基本技巧，提高学生的口语交际能力。对学生了解其他国家的文化,了解文化的多样性,差异性起着积极的作用.为以后在交流时提供依据。

二、教学目标: 以<<新课程标准>>为准则,以掌握知识,培养能力,开发潜力为目的,本课特制定如下教学目标. 1知识目标: <<新课程标准>>要求的单词,短语.（ such as small talk , informal , topic conversation ）以及日常英语的交流模式。

2能力目标: 学生能读懂课文，获取主要信息并摘录要点，能根据文章主要信息对有关small talk这一话题流畅的表达自己的观点与意见。

3情感目标:

通过学习英语文化的交际方式，注意文化的差异性，提高跨文化的交际能力。

4 教学重点: 理解课文,掌握small talk , informal , topic conversation等词汇的用法，并做到灵活运用，理解材料中的信息并能整理并归纳中心思想. 5教学难点: 如何准确的使用small talk. 三、教学方法:

五、教学流程: Step 1、复习提问

1)What

does “small talk ”mean? 2)What features does small talk have? ＊设计意图：对“Small Talk

”形成一个头脑风暴，引发学生对这话题的好奇心，同时在上一课时的基础上确保学生理解“Small Talk

”的定义。

Step 2、导入新课

Q4: “ Small talk ” means “ 闲谈，聊天

” .

Purpose : Make a stormbraining about “Small Talk

” , and help Ss interest in the topic . Make sure they can understand the definitions about “Small Talk

” in Act.1 in Introduction . Task 2 :

Look at the conversation topics below and answer the questions in Act. 2 on P1 .. Topics: careers cars examinations film stars music politics sport travel weather food

As you know , small talk is a kind of informal conversation about unimportant topics or subjects at social occasions & it’s not about serious subjects , right ? Read through the topics & answer the five questions in Act. 2 on P1 . Q1: If you talk about these topics , is the conversation serious or small talk ? Q2: Which of the topics do you talk about with your friends ? Q3: Which of them do you talk about with your parents ? Q4: Which of them do you talk about with your teacher ? Q5: Which of them do you never talk about ? (Q1: In general , careers , examinations & politics are not parts of small talk . They are serious talk .)

Purpose : Make sure Ss know what kind of topics belong to “Small Talk

” .

Task 3 : Speaking

But do you know 80% of all conversations in English are small talk ? Now let’s come to the speaking part on P8 . Discuss the questions and give reasons for your answers in Act.1 on P8 . Q1: Is small talk important in your society ?

Q2: Is it as important as “ real ” conversation ?

Q3: From what you have learnt in this module , would you say it was more or less important in English than in your language ? Answers: Q1: Of course it is very important . Because small talk gets friendships started and ‘ breaks the ice ’ before important meetings and other events .

e.g : I like collecting stamps and I often go to the stamp market .If I want to pick up or exchange stamps with others , small talk with other people seems necessary .First I’ll try to get acquainted with them & then make the deal . It makes things easier . What’s more , I have made a lot of friends from whom I can learn a lot about stamps .And I’m a member of a stamp collecting society .So I think small talk is very important in my society . Q2: I think it is as important as ‘ real ’conversation .Sometimes small talk can lay a basic foundation for real conversation . When you show your concern ,friendship ,politeness in small talk , you can make good impression on your listeners . And then you will get along well with them in the communication . So I think small talk is also important even though it is always about unimportant subjects . Q3: I think it is as important in English as in Chinese . As long as communication between each other exists ,small talk is there .It is very important in our daily

life .However , every nation has its own customs & the standard of good manners , so when you are making small talk , especially in foreign countries , you should follow their customs & manners and try to find proper topics to talk about . Or you will cause some discomfort & embarrassment . Summary : All the above discussions show that there is much more to learn when we learn a language . It includes not only the vocabulary and the grammar of the language , but the social behaviors in it . Purpose : Make sure Ss master the features of “Small Talk

” and can use small talk to talk freely in daily conversations . Task 4: Everyday English

1. Let Ss learn some certain words can be left out in informal conversations in Everyday English on P10 & dosome Ex. . e.g. a).Wonderful , aren’t they ? (= They’re wonderful , aren’t they ? )

b). Been here before ? (= Have you been here before ? ) Purpose : Help Ss know small talk is informal conversation with informal language .So we should use spoken English when making small talk . Make sure they can understand the incomplete sentences as well as the complete sentences when people make small talk . 2. Next give two more short conversations, and ask Ss to find out which one belongs to an example of “small talk ”? e.g.

Conversation 1:

Paul : So how was your holiday ?

Mike : Absolutely wonderful . Paul : Really ? Where did you go ? Mike : Oh, we flew to Florence and stayed in a villa in Tuscany . Paul : Very nice . Mike : It was great . There was a pool , a super restaurant in the village . The countryside is beautiful . Paul: Sounds like a dream . Do you want another drink ? Conversation 2:

Agent : Can I help you ? Mike : I hope you can . It’s about the holiday in Tuscany I booked here .

Agent : Was there a problem , sir ? Mike : There certainly was . In fact there were lots of problems . Firstly , it wasn’t a villa as it said in the book , but a small house in the town . There was no pool . The nearest restaurant was ten kilometers away . And there was a huge factory next door !! Agent : Oh dear . Now let’s see , which villa was it …

Purpose : After the study of the Everyday English , through practising and judging the two conversations , help Ss learn how to use the incomplete sentences in a conversation , which belongs to “Small Talk
