The target students of this lesson are in Grade two of senior high. The students have accumulated some words and expressions to express their point of views and most of them have their short-term and long-term goals. However, they don't know what good qualities are necessities to help them overcome difficulties. Before this lesson, the teacher has guided the students appreciate some exciting parts of the film, which can help them have a better understanding of the reading passage. Meanwhile, the passage in the cultural corner is a little bit simple, so the teacher integrated more information about the story and character in the reading material. 3重点难点

1. Important points: Understand the story as a whole and summarize the characteristics of the main characters. 2. Difficult points: Discuss the good qualities of the heroes and how to make use of the good qualities to help the students achieve their goals. 4教学过程

Lead-in

1. Introduce Chinese fantasy literature "Snow White and Seven Dwarves" to the students and get the students compare the difference between Chinese fantasy literature and western fantasy literature. 2. Get the students appreciate a short video from the film named "The Lord of the Rings". 3. Guide the students to read the introduction of the writer who wrote the novel "The Lord of the Rings" Stimulate the students’ interest in this Module and the topic of this lesson. Besides, help the students get more information about the western writer. 活动2【活动】

Read for topic

Lead the students to skim the passage and fill in the form on the learning guide sheet to get the name, type, writer and where the story happened. Help the students learn about the background of this story as well as improve the reading ability of skimming. 活动3【活动】

Read for clues

1. Let the students write down the names of the characters according to the description. 2. Fill in the blanks about the setting, plot and ending of the story. Help the students understand the story as a whole as well as improve the reading ability of scanning. 活动4【活动】Group work

1. Guide the students to separate the representatives in the group of kindness and justice from the creatures in the group of darkness and evil in the story. 2. Lead the students to appreciate parts of typical short videos of heroes in the story. Work in groups and summarize the good qualities which help the heroes defeat evil. Each group leader will write down their discussion results on the blackboard. 3. Help the students learn the vocabulary by reading and identifying the meanings of the adjectives on the blackboard in class. Develop the students’ communicative and cooperative strategy in group work. Besides, cultivate the students’ strong will and good qualities to conquer difficulties. 活动5

【练习】Show time 1. Let the students enjoy the recorded micro-class video which helps them recall their goals written in class meeting at the beginning of this term. 2. Work in groups and discuss in groups to share the students' goals with their group members and tell others what good qualities they learn from the heroes in the story can help them achieve their goals? 3. Choose some students to share their ideas. 4. The teacher assess the students' point of views and give them encouragements. 5. Call on all students to make use of good qualities they learned to the fullest to overcome difficulties they face. Seize the day and do their best.
